Direct Hire Recruiter Job Questions & Answers

I am currently a recruiter for direct hire positions but would like to transition into a Social Services Career. I enjoy the diversity of cultures, find purpose in helping others, and am driven by humanity of life. I am pursuing a Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Degree in the Fall with concentration in Psychology. Any suggestions on how I can make a smooth transition?

I was recently contacted by a recruiting agency that told me they have a position for me. So I went in their office, they intervewied me, and made me fill out tons of paper work. A week later, they called and asked if I was still avaliable for work, I told them yes. Couple hours later, I got an award letter for direct hire job, so I called back the recruiter and told him that I am no longer avaliable. He was kinda upset and asked me what company, whom I interviewed with, what position, that time I told him everything because I thought he was just being friendly...but now when I think about it, can he call the company and tell them that they hired a person whom he had a contract with? Thanks,

My husband went to an interview today and it was for a staffing agency. They said they would help him get the job that the employer has to offer. They say they are direct to hire. However, if my husband gets offered a job and accepts the job we have to pay $325.00 for their services. Yesterday while listening to them on the phone they said they don't charge anything and it's illegal to do so. I am really confused and I feel this is a scam.

On several occasions the recruiter has told me that she will call me back to set up an interview. I never received a call. She blamed this on a Manager not returning her pages. However, this same manager has always been prompt in returning my pages.

I am curious as I am sending out resumes now. I want to know what the difference is if I were hired by a company through a recruiter, or if I were hired by the same company but directly, in that I went through the company to get the job? What is the difference in my status, am I an actual employee of the company, and/or will I be treated or paid differently? Thank you.

I recently moved to Chesapeake, VA so my spouse could accept a better job and I have been searching for a job for a month now. I have worked in Operations and Logistics for over a decade and am looking for similar work. I have my resume posted on Monster, Career builder and several other job sites. I set aside 3-4 hours a day to search various companies websites and apply for jobs yet, I have had NO feedback. I think that I should have gotten at least a couples nibbles. Having never been unemployed before, I am feeling very discouraged and my self-esteem is really starting to nosedive. My brother says that I should expect a job search to take 3-6 months. I think thats crazy. Am I being unrealistic or is he?

I go to a school that's not heavily recruited. But I'm still pulling a 3.9 GPA in ME. I want a hard job in engineering that will let me travel and make me think! For the time being I'd love to just get experience as an intern or at a part time job. Shoot - I'd even slow down my degree progress if I could land an interesting full time position. But I can't seem to find them - internships, part time, or full-time jobs. Everyone wants someone who has five or more years of experience. Are you an engineer? Do you recruit them? What do you suggest? Thank you!

I was just thinking the other day that job hiring can be depending on the economy. However, someone told me that there is certain time in the year where hiring is high and low. Is this true? Please let me know.

I had a fantastic job interview two weeks ago today. After the interview, the hiring manager said he would send me some information for our final interview. At that point, I told him I wouldn't be available until the 26th of May (tomorrow). He said "okay" and walked away. I haven't heard anything from them at all. I called the recruiter who works at the company and left her a voicemail asking for the hiring manager's contact information so I could send him a "thank you" letter. She did not return my call, so I emailed her about five days ago. Nothing. I'm starting to think I didn't get the job. Should I just move on, or should I wait? The interview was OUTSTANDING, so I felt really really good about this opportunity. Thanks!

I haven't hunted for a job in a while, so I posted my resume on Monster.com as "public". Now I am getting all these calls from recruitment agencies, but not direct employers. Mostly these recruiters are looking for contract workers and consultants. So - does anyone have an experience working with a recruitment agency (good or bad), and what exactly is their role in the employment process? Also, any insider tips for job hunting? I've been sending out resumes for a little while and I am feeling discouraged.

Specifically, who should I address it to if the job listing does not give a direct contact. It lists the company name, but not a person. I read that it isn't proper to address it "to whom it may concern." So what do I do there?

My boyfriend was convicted of a felon, over drugs, over 7 years ago and he just hasn't been able to find work. He is a good person, just messed up years ago when he got into drugs. Does anyone know of any resources or what he can do to make a better life for himself? He really wants to succeed. It's not fair that someone who has a good heart can't move on with his life because of a dumb mistake.

Hi. I am going to be graduating with an Associate's degree in nursing and I need help with composing a proper resume. Is a cover letter necessary and a vital part of a resume? I just recently found out about them and have no idea as to if it is expected or not. Also, I have heard that the objective of a resume is outdated and not of any help, and is in fact just a waste of space. Is that true? Then I heard that you either have one or the other...a cover letter or an objective on the resume. They don't really seem comparable so I don't really understand that. Also, what would be a good objective (if I need one) when applying to an extended care facility (mostly geriatric patients) "To obtain a position as a Registered Nurse and provide safe, competent care to patients" ?? This job specifically involves the geriatric community, so how can I direct the objective more towards that?
