Fraud Investigator Job Questions & Answers

I graduated with a BA in history almost 2 years now. It seems accounting is the best way to get into fraud investigation; however, I am not willing to back to school for a degree in accounting. So I'm thinking about going into insurance. Casualty and Property Insurance seem to have more obvious entry level jobs such as being a claims adjuster. I'd prefer to go into health insurance (I have some experience with my current job), but am unsure what positionsI should be looking for. If you are a fraud investigator how did you get there?

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who works as an Insurance Fraud Investigator? I am seeing that this career looks great, but the only downside I seen was that it said this job can be dangerous? Is this true? If anyone does this for a living, can you give me specific details about what you do for your job? Thanks everyone!

When presented a clear cut case of fraud, agency investigator looks instead for the way out of prosecuting. Looking the other way when he stated the was no doubt that the person's testimony was a lie, but couldn't do ANYTHING about it? This type of dismissal exposes a great many other consumers to an unlicensed crook. All this is contrary to the aggressive round up of unlicensed contractors, using ficticious names and other people's licenses? When will a gov't agency get a spine? How do lazy bureaucrats live with themselves? Okay, that sounds so hostile. Question remains if an investigator (cslb) won't give his findings to the consumer, without subpoena BUT only for a civil case, it immediately holds the consumer hostage to the mediation/arbitration scam. How does this help the consumer who was already presented evidence on a silver platter? The process is full of limitations for the consumer. The agency is no longer an advocate for the consumer when the value of damages was determined to be greater than the amount you can recover in the process. At that point, when the consumer is that damaged (per their own inspectors findings) the agency isn't interested. It forces you into the courts, civil and criminal.

I am a recent criminal justice major graduate. I am a late bloomer and unfortunately the majority of my previous work experience is in the travel business. I would love to begin a new career as a fraud/insurance investigator or even in social services but I am finding that experience, not education is the biggest requirement. I am beginning to think all of my hard work in school has been wasted.

This is a person who investigates claims of fraudulant injury. Let's say someone claims to be disabled. If there is a suspicion of fraud, an insurance investigator would follow them and maybe photograph them jet skiing or something like that. Has anyone heard of this , and particularly what education would be needed and who would I contact about employment?

I am currently working in the DC metro area as a background investigator (government contractor). I'd like to get into the anti-fraud industry (maybe insurance fraud/white collar crime); however, I don't know what the essential tools are for these types of jobs. I have a bachelors degree. I am willing to go back to school and/or take professional courses, but I don't know where to begin and don't want to waste my money. I don't think I want to stay in the DC area forever, so learning about requirements in the private industry is very important to me. Thank you.

I've always been quite passionate about the subject. I'd personally LOVE to even volunteer to expose people who, for example, have "back problems", yet do hard manual labor to subsidize their disability checks. I'm about to finish my bachelor's in Criminal Justice and may even go on to graduate school. Are there any careers that focus on this type of work? Specifically, do governments, state or federal, have units of private investigators devoted to this line of work? Thanks!

My husband is thinking about taking a job in this field. He is currently a detective and the stress of his current job is very high. I'm just not sure if all of the traveling (involving going to a major metro area) will be just as stressful as his current job. What about the career ladder?
