Recently, my company announced that all workers would have to divulge any second jobs or self-employment, and furthermore, have them approved (or denied) by the General Manager as a condition for continued employment. Is this legal? Notes: I work in California (so any help with state law would be useful) and my employer is a State Government entity.

My sister is the operations manager of chain of dental offices, but I don't exactly know what that means, lol. I don't want to ask her, because I'd feel embarrassed because I feel like I should already know haha. So what exactly is her job? Thanks = ) Oh, that makes sense, thanks. I can see why everyone at her job was kissing up to me when they met me, haha. = )

I purchased a 42" Phillips flat panel TV less than a year ago. It has now gone out. I purchased it with a 2-year in-home service contract, which I now find out was only good for a year and no one will come to my home to repair it. Which brand can beat this?

When I was trying to purchase a male top one of my manager's told me that I couldn't buy it because "it wasn't for me" (i'm female). I said "ok", but then it hit me that a lesbian co-worker gets to buy boy clothes because she dresses like a boy. And we also have a male co-worker who wears girl t-shirts. I am not clear if they get discounts on their clothes, but I don't doubt that they do. If they can only buy one gender set of clothes, I will be fine. But if they get to buy both, or flip flop time to time, I will be upset. But besides, does my manager have the right to address what I buy with my employee discount? I imagine that if I was a lesbian there would be a lawsuit funded the by the ACLU already against my company, because then I'd have to discuss sexual orientation or gender identity which one shouldn't have to at a job. How do I address this problem with my manager/company? And what if they get to buy both and I can't? Isn't that discrimination??

I'm currently building up a modeling portfolio. I'm always getting in contact with photographers to get in different looks and styles. Now that it's getting fuller, what do I do with it? I live in central Arkansas. There are a few agencies that I've looked at but I go to college and have a nearly full-time job. I don't think they will accept me because of my schedule but I need to keep this job to help pay for transportation and education costs. Could I perhaps send them to local magazines or would I need an agency to get through? I'm currently with a non-exclusive agency (no contracts, I'm not bound to my current manager) but my manager is lazy and isn't really interested in helping out us girls anymore. Can anyone with experience please help? I'm looking for local work only. I'd like to finish my degree before I move somewhere else.

My mother in law fell on hard times and was unable to pay the storage locker fees and was told her items were going to be sold. The employees were very rude and even called the police saying she was drinking and driving which was not true.. just to get rid of her. She has lost everything her husband, her home, her job, her processions... everything. She understands she signed a contract that stated her processions would be sold due to lack of payment but in the storage locker was her late husbands ashes and personal paperwork for work and income tax etc. and photos. Does she have the right to these items back? It seems to me they do not have the right to sell human remains? She isn't asking for everything just her husbands ashes and her personal paperwork. The manager at the business has refused to give her any information to help her such as when the auction was held who she can talk to purchase those items etc. They are just going to be thrown out anyway but he is being unreasonable. Is there anything we can do? This happened in Owen Sound Ontario so you know the location.
