I am a Canadian citizen moving to Los Angeles in May and I want to work in the field of Biology. I have an undergraduate degree. I want to know if anyone knows any details about TN Status in the USA (personal experience would be best) How do you get it? What do you need? Do you apply in advance or get it when you cross the border? Can you leave and re-enter with it? Any other info would be great, thanks.

I am an analyst with a small consulting firm. I am coming up on being there for one year. I got a raise after only a few months, and if I make my maximum bonus currently make $37000 + health insurance. They suggested we might revisit the salary conversation next month at the time of my 1 year anniversary of being hired. I am 1 year out of college living in Atlanta, majored in Psych with minors in Marketing and Economics and 4 time Dean's List Honoree. I do work lots of hours..... probably 55-60 hours per week. What is a reasonable salary expectation?

In early 2010 I was treated in a German hospital for alcohol poisoning. My traveler's insurance at the time didn't cover it, so I was slammed with the bill. They also gave me paperwork showing me what they did to me, which was pretty much only a IV that they gave me in order to flush my system. Now I'm looking into joining the military. (Can't decide on the Army or Navy.) But both recruiters I've talked to have told me not to include any information about having been treated while in Germany. Both of them told me that "it didn't happen." Now, my gut instincts tell me that that's dishonest. I voiced my concerns to both recruiters, and they replied that it would be better for me not to tell them that, and that I don't have to volunteer that information. The thing is, I DO have paperwork for the incident. It DID happen. The reason why they are telling me not to include that info, is, I think, because they know that I want to become a cryptologic analyst or linguist, and that job requires SECRET to TOP-SECRET clearance. If I were to include that information, they fear that it would prevent me from getting clearance. Does anyone know about this sort of thing? What should I do?

I recently got dismissed from work for gross misconduct, I feel that this was a move made due to money issues within the business. Whilst in my employment I was using illegal software which the owner of the business knew about as I needed it to do my job, but she was unwilling to pay for the software, however this was turned around on me in a disciplinary meeting 1 day before I was due to go on a booked holiday. The relationship between me and my employer was very informal up until this point, and there was no real worry for me doing things such as using this software. I was employed for 8 months and towards the last two months there were several signs of money running out. 2 people had lost their jobs and I was under constant pressure to build revenue - I was told this verbally. Before my holiday I received a hand delivered letter on a Saturday stating the reasons for a disciplinary meeting. I was due to fly out on Tuesday and had Sunday to prepare my case for dismissal, even though I had to pack and get organised for my holiday. The reasons were mainly misuse of IT equipment putting the company into"serious disrepute" - my boss had overlooked the illegal software used to do my work and honed in on things like 2 illegal music albums plus websites i'd visited during working hours (i.e. car tax renewal - which i felt was petty as this probably took 5 minutes and I'd always do work beyond my job role - This kind of evened out.) I didn't have enough time to prepare for the meeting on Monday, the computer was also completely removed so that I could not gather my own evidence. When I walked into the meeting there was a computer analyst present who I didn't know was attending and there was also a receptionist present as a note taker. I hadn't been informed at any of these additional attendees and was uncomfortable having the receptionist as a note taker as she was not a member of our business and was someone I saw daily. My boss was very formal in the meeting and wanted me to admit to everything, which I didn't have a choice. For example she'd ask about the music, I replied with sometimes it motivated me at work - trying to show her inpersonally that I wasn't using the music for any other reason than to improve my working habits - She then repeated the question forcing me to admit my fault. At one point I stated that I felt the issues raised were selective to benefit the business, I mentioned that the software I use daily was also illegal. The computer analyst then said "was you aware of this?" to my boss, to which she said no. I do have emails and text messages asking if the software was installed. So this was a lie. So I lost my steam during my disciplinary not only was I ill prepared due to the lack of time to prepare but I also felt a little intimidated by the unannounced attendees. Feeling like I'd been... well, screwed! I just admitted to everything and refused comments in some questions. I then asked if I could go home (kind of knowing that I'd be getting fired) where I was allowed. I tried to speak to my boss on a personal level but she was having none of it. I went on holiday and when I came back I found a letter stating that my contract had been terminated with 1 week payment in lieu. - This letter was not date stamped and there was no date saying when my contract had been terminated I have emailed my boss asking if this money would be payed on the normal pay day (5th) and for a travel expenses form which I needed to claim. I also asked for my termination date so that I can make steps to get national insurance contributions from the job centre etc. I have heard nothing for a week and I have not been paid. Where do I stand legally? Could I rule that the disciplinary meeting was unfair? How do I get my money? Would you recommend I go to the solicitors and seek further legal advice and take this further? What do I do now? I worked there for 8 months

My 'puter's covered with some pretty involved protection that my computer bud with the J.P.L. (<look it up) has put together for me using this n that from a few over-the-counter, consumer available, protection apps like of course McAfee, Norton, and 'another'. The problem is, he neglected to erase the file in McAfee that prompts the subscription-renewal-reminder-pop up from, well, popping up ever 10 mins or so. I don't need to buy any other "files" from their nifty lil package so I don't want to subscribe for it (and my "friend's" on hiatus). If I DID renew it, that would probably screw up everything that he built. ( was very impressive! You computer science brains out there will one day rule the world...Deal with the other kids makin' fun o' ya for now...they'll be coming to you for a job soon enough...Phew) I could maybe go in and yank it out but I'M NOT THE TECH...he is, and once on my own, I had a bad experience that led me to a complete re-install of the O.S. I certainly won't be finding any jobs as a systems analyst any time soon. Anybody got any knowledge about these sorts of things? I just want that d_ _n pop-up to go away without upsetting the applecart. Thanks ahead. "m"
