I heard that being a consultant pays well and that it requires traveling. I was wondering if someone can tell me more about what a consultant is, what they do, and different types of consultants there are please? DO they travel often, like on call kind of thing? And also..if you do want to be a consultant, what is the name of the type of education you need to get? Like, is there a major for it?

I'm not talking about an agency that places IT professionals. I mean an agency that places computer programmer professionals (engineers) who know high-level programming languages. The agency should understand well a programmer's skills. It should be one that is known and respected in the Los Angeles, CA area. The good agencies also provide benefits to the people they place, such as direct deposit, holiday pay, and online timecards. The good agencies might also offer medical benefits, FSAs, 401(k) to those that contract long term. Thanks in advance. I have a friend who really needs help looking for work in this field. He is at an advanced level in his career.

I have approved H1B petition which is unused and now expired. I never travelled to U.S. and thus my case is considered in "out-of-cap" category for H1b visa. I have 11 years of I.T. experience on Java/j2ee platform and worked on frameworks like Spring, JSF, Struts2, Hibernate etc. Is it possible to apply for J2EE Sr. Developer position by sitting in India ? If technical interview is cleared, are there any chances that some U.S. based company will process my H1B. ( I have -797 and the h1b petition approved in 2009 and never used that "cap" hence it is "out-of-cap"). Without any consultant or body shopper, is it possible that some U.S. company is going to process my H1B stamping ? and as it is "out-of-cap", I dont have to wait till Oct 2013 but can come to U.S immediately after stamping. Please provide me valuable inputs. Kind request.

Hi I am a mechanical engineer major. Is it necessary to take a business major or minor to become involved in management within an engineering company? It would probably make it much easier to attain a job within that realm, no? Can I enter this realm without taking business minor/major, as many technological company leaders have done?

I started my first job out of college on Monday as a consultant in the roll of a jr. project manager. I started thinking this was a bad idea only after orientation was over, and they had shown me to my desk. I received e-mails from my sr. program manger asking me to read and familiarize myself with our clients work. Today, I literally read all day, 8-4. And I don't even know if I can leave at 4, I mean its 8 hours of work*. We do have flex time..... I was so excited out this opportunity, and then day 1 came. Overload would be an understatement. The fact that I said to myself "this may not be what you thought it was, you may have made a mistake" after the first day is probably a good hint. I am just starting, and starting with nothing is always the hardest. It could just be that, getting over the h**p, and once I am in the swing of things it will get better. But when I think about that office, all day, 5 days a week, I say "is that all? Is this what I went to school for?". I am far from lazy, so it's defiantly not a lack of effort on my part. There is so much ambiguity. Any way, if anyone has some info about a similar situation comment away. Thanks!

The bottom line is that the Senior Consultant is in control of a Medical Student's application. Say the Senior Consultant was abusing the patients. The Medical Student tells ANOTHER Senior Consultant about this. The Sr Consultant who misbehaves gets away with it simply because the one you reported him to was his friend, and simply told the Consultant when he was sober that you reported them instead of letting him get away with it. You figure out that all those years the Sr Consultant was in the hospital, he has made friends with everyone, and they all are far more likely to back him up (out of friendship/ experiences together) than to back a Medical Student who is present temporarily. Now the Sr Consultant moves it up a notch and comes in drunk. It is your legal duty to report the drunk consultant to court (or you'll find yourself in court if you are found out that you did nothing) and you end up getting the Sr Consultant heavily fined. Due to the nature of the powerful lawyers ALL doctors have, he doesn't lose his job. Also, he's a senior consultant, it's the first time he's done it so they prefer keeping him. Now the Sr Consultant is VERY spiteful, he's searching long and hard to find ways to stop you from practicing as a doctor. You are a Medical Student, he's in control of your application and has more experience than you. There is bound to be one thing that you may get wrong, and it's also very easy for the Sr consultant to NOT tell you and keep a note of it. He/she could note each and every mistake you make (not telling you or informing you) until the Sr Consultant has a list of reasons to get you kicked out. The worst part of it is that it would be unbelievably difficult (if not impossible) to move the medical student to another hospital AND this whole situation probably can never be avoided. Furthermore the Sr Consultant has POWER, WISDOM AND he's in control of your APPLICATION. On top of that, you also have the whole hospital against you as it's a given that the Sr Consultant has gossiped bad things about you. I think it's obvious that the innocent Medical Student is going to be kicked out of Medical School and the Sr Consultant is going to love it. Why is such a protocol in place? It's so stupid.... I forgot to add that I considered the possibility that if it was not in place, the Sr Consultant may have killed many patients. But the fact that an innocent medical student can EASILY be booted for being good is just making me so sad. The stupidity and corruption :(

I was recently interviewed for an IT consultant position. My consulting company has high regards for me, so they sent my resume to one of their leading clients. The clients said they like my experience and skill set . I went through three rounds of interviews. 1st: Manager- interviews me technical and personal questions and says she likes me. 2nd: co-worker- Analyst- asked me a few technical questions and some general regarding my resume. i did well. 3rd- sr. consultant- very technical and I could not answer a few questions. and she said good luck with your job search at the end of the interview. I know they are in immediate need of a person to help them an it just a 9 month contract. Also I have very relevant experience. will they consider me for this position or will they disqualify me on my 3rd round. please help me.. please some input....I am so waiting fro their answer. I might hear from them in a couple of days. but still cant stand this tension. Thanks a lot !! PS:the third interviewer sounded as though she was dissapointed with some of my answers in the interview. They were all phone interviews and they said they will let their final decision soon.
