I currently work at a corporation run restaurant. I started in the kitchen and within 8 months have learned things that people there years have never learned. I'm the hardest worker and I'll be graduating college in under a year. The assistant general manager and the regional supervisor ABOVE the general manager of the restaurant are both on board with me becoming an assistant manager. However, the general manager of this restaurant is taking his time and is trying to make things seem fair because I've advanced so quickly; even though I deserve it. I've contemplated designing a written paper to my general manager voicing all of the opinions and facts that are surrounding every reason why I should be getting this promotion. Does anyone have any ideas for me? The restaurant is Vinny T's of Boston, if that helps anyone.

I am working for a job that has a 1 year evaluation period after which my employer decides if they wish to keep me or not. I won't be able to handle my supervisor for much longer than that but I want to get a year of experience in as a manager at my job first. How do I apply for a new job without them wanting to contact my current supervisor who I know will opinionate a less than favorable assessment of my work although I am a hard worker and good at what I do? Will my future employer NEED to contact my supervisor or is there someone who knows the best way to handle a situation of this type? Thank you for your advise and God bless!

I feel like I really want to be a manager in marketing, but i don't know what degrees to get and how to get there. I'm planning on going to community college for 2 years then transferring, and getting my b.s. in philosophy. I would then get a MBA in marketing. Is this a good path or are there better.

Do you think I could use letters from managers from jobs I kept during school, even if they aren't very important jobs? i.e. waiting tables, volunteer work, etc.

I am thinking of becoming a social worker but i'm unsure what job opportunities there will be once I finish the degree. Can anyone give me examples (as many as possible) where a social worker may work? Also do you have to specialise in one area? Are there similar jobs available where I would be helping people, but the degree isn't necessary?

I have had this happen two times, and I would like to know your thoughts. I get a phone call, and then the employer tells me about the position, and then mentions that they need to pass it along to the hiring manager. Then they explain that I should keep my Monday next week free and to expect a call/email confirming everything. The problem is that Monday next week comes and I haven't heard from them. Has anyone had this happen to them? Or know what I should do to prevent this from happening?
