My husband owns a remodeling/construction business. He has three employees that can show up at any time of day and no supervisor/job foreman. My husband could be at a supply store or elsewhere when they show up, or right in the middle of something on the job. What would you do to make sure the employees hours are being tracked properly?

I got hired as a construction supervisor, and start on Monday. I want to pull in with style, so the guys will respect me. I was thinking of cranking Justin Beiber on my truck stereo, so they'd hear me coming. Think this will work? I've never been a supervisor before.

My husband is a supervisor at a local manufacturing facility. HIS supervisor has, on numerous occasions, been verbally abusive towards my husband and the other 3 supervisors at my husband's level during management meetings. The verbal abuse includes yelling, foul language, and threats of termination. None of the abuse is discrimination based towards any of the "protected" classes such as age, race, handicap, etc - nor is it of a sexual nature. So from what I have been told, there is no real legal grounds to stand on against this abusive manager - you can't take legal action against someone for just being a really bad manager and a total jerk. I have suggested to my husband that he file a complaint with the HR department, but he feels that it would be useless, as this particular manager is higher on the "organizational ladder" than the HR staff. Any thoughts or suggestions on how my husband should handle this? Please note that finding another job IS an option, but one that would cut my husband's income by about a third - with a family of six, this is something we can ill afford.

I graduated college with a BBA in management and was able to find a good job in the residential construction industry as a supervisor. I mistakenly thought the market would not get so grim, but it did and I lost my position along with several others in the company. Now I am fighting to support my family and searching for another job which reflects my college degree and professional expierience, but there seems to be nothing out there after several months of searching. I do however see a vast array of positions available in the Computer/IT industry and feel that if I can secure a degree in this feild I will be able to find a career that is much more stable.

My husband and I are moving to Vegas this summer. And we want to know what kinds of jobs we can get. We are both 45 and are licensed professionals where we live. He has done construction since he was 14 and has had his General Contractors license for 10 years. He has also worked for a Construction company as a Supervisor for the past 3 years. I have been in customer service for over 25 years and have owned a Daycare as well as I have been a licensed Cosmetologist for 12 years and am a licensed Instructor and recently taught in 2 area colleges as a Cosmetology instructor. I currently work for an insurance agency. Our licenses won't apply when we move, but, how will our experience benefit us and what kinds of jobs can we expect to get. Also, how much can we expect to make? Currently we are barely making $35K gross between us. Could we realistically expect to make more in Vegas with our experience?

I leave for Basic Training in 11 days and signed my contract for Nuclear Field. I plan on being an ET (electronics technician). I know it will obviously involve nuclear power and probably power plants, but I'm looking for the specific jobs there or possibly research and development jobs I could get into.

I have taken a range of classes in geology, watershed management, public health, renewable energy, and a year each of physics, chemistry, and calculus. What sorts of entry-level jobs should I be applying for? Could any of these jobs be a bit flexible if I wanted to chose to continue my studies and work at the same time? I will be waiting for suggestions and advice. It would be greatly appreciated.

I am about to be promoted this week as a Finance Supervisor and the turn out of the events are so quick I just don't know what to do or the expect from that job. I'm absolutely clueless. I will be oriented anytime this week and I know deep inside of me that the job ahead of me is like a huge mountain to climb. Sorry you have totally misunderstood my question. They entrusted me this position because of the fact that I am one of the best employees in their company. During our their annual strategic planning it was reported there that the revenues were on record high and I was one of the key elements of why they achieved that so basically, that's the reason why I will get promoted but this position? I know where I am good at but this one totally surprised me. Last week I was being briefed by the HRAD Manager about this and I thought yeah I could handle it but as the time gets nearer and nearer the nerves start to kick in. Until now I feel like I'm in a dream. I'll wait until it's being officially announced in the entire company. (sigh) It feels like a huge rock being put on top of my shoulders. I hope I can get through with this. @ Franz Oh sht! My golly! @ Max Are you trying to be sarcastic? Mind you I already posted this question in Business Section and yet I still get no answers to date. FYI.
