Does any one have any information on overseas government contractor jobs? A lot of websites that I've looked at either want you to pay to search for jobs or don't provide very much information at all. They only company that I know of is KBR. What are some others? As far as experience goes I have 10 years of active duty as an AF personnelist under my belt plus a CCAF in human resource management.

I've seen jobs on job searches specified as civilian contractor jobs, but I don't know what those are. Does it mean you can't quit for a certain amount or time? Someone tell me please. thanks

My friend was laid off and he will be eligible for unemployment compensation next week. If he takes a contractor job as a programmer for one month, does that disqualify him from receiving unemployment benefits once his job is complete?

Can I collect unemployment and also get an independant contractor job in California? The unemployment asks you every week if you are making any kind of money...but if you dont need to report your taxes until the end of the year for an independant contractor can't you say that you are not making any money now?

I hired a contractor to finish my basement, but it has been 7months and counting. This is a project that he told me was going to take 6 weeks. I need to know the name of that contractor or show that helps people with botched home improvement contractor jobs!

I am assuming the company I am working for will submit my W-9 and inform the IRS of my wages. Is that so? If they do not submit my wages to the IRS would the IRS expect me to file and pay income tax every year even if I earned no wages or was unemployed? I am receiving direct deposit of my wages from the company I am working for currently. Would there be any proof of these wages provided to the IRS from the company I am contracting with? I have just started this contractor job in 2007 and was an employee with a W-2 until Nov of 2006. I am hearing conflicting information of persons who do not file, and those who do. This is not a moral issue I am interested on the legal and financial outcomes if I chose to not pay quarterly estimated taxes for 2007.

This is in Texas so there is no income tax. The independent contracter would earn around $600 every 2 weeks with no taxes taken out. I understand that it is best to file these taxes quarterly, however how would the contractor go about filing them, and how would the contractor know how much they will owe so that they can know how much to set aside each paycheck? The contractor also has another job in which they are considered an employee that pays $225-$250 every 2 weeks, however taxes are taken out of this regularly if this matters at all to the independent contractor job

I just started a contractor job at a staffing agency, it's a two year contract. I just found out the I'm expecting. By the time the baby is due it will have been 8 months that I'm working for them. If I take 1 year (maternity and parental leave) I would have 6 months left to my contract. Can the staffing agency fire me because of this? I know they can't discriminate because I'm pregnant but can they say that "I'm not available for work"? This is the first time I post this question, thanks.

If you can enlighten me on this that would be great! I understand that the main purpose of a security contractors job is to guard officials, securing the transportation of officials and convoys, etc. etc. but they are separate from the military, and their missions are written on contracts before entering the battlefield. So I am assuming that they do not take orders from any US military personnel and follow solely on their contract says. Am I right?

With the immigration debate, people are talking about the wall that (needs to be/will be) built along the southern U.S. border. What I'm wondering is: based on previous U.S. government contractor jobs, how long do we think this is going to take? And to base it on a comparison, how long is Israel's wall and how long did it take them?

For my entire career as a contractor, I have worked on a W-2 basis. Recently, I was offered a contractor job, but they will hire me only if I agree to a 1099 basis. As someone who has never dealt with this form of compensation/tax before, what are some things that I need to consider if I accept this job? For example, how much paperwork would I need to fill out for tax purposes (mileage, business lunches, business travel, etc.)? Also, if they do not withhold any taxes from my paycheck, then what percentage of my pay should I set aside for tax season? Thank you.

I have a full-time job and a part-time independent contractor job. On my full-time job's W-4 form there is a line for "additional money withheld." Can that be used to pay the taxes for the money I make as an independent contractor or does that have to be paid separately quarterly?
