 | I'm currently a college junior working on earning my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (structural engineering specifically). I'm looking for a job related to my field of study, in order to get some sort of general experience in the construction, design, engineering areas. I have an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering. So I thought I can perhaps get an entry level position as a Civil Drafter or in Civil Engineering Technology, something along those lines. Does anyone have any ideas on what other (small) jobs I can have that'll introduce me to the construction/engineering/design workforce? Any suggestions will be a great help. Thanks in advance!

 | I have been applying for civil engineering and construction jobs for a while, with nothing yet. I am getting a bit restless and thinking of working for free until I can land a full time job. Any tips on how this works? Do I post an ad for myself on craigslist or some other site? Do I email companies individually? I feel a bit hesitant about emailing companies because I feel that implies that they cannot afford to hire people. Any advice will help thanks!

 | I'm currently a Sophomore in a Mechanical engineering major. I really want a hands on job but it seems that most engineering involves being behind a desk. I enjoy working with hand tools, taking things apart, putting them together and I really like to be creative and try different things (like inventing or improving or building something). Are there many Engineering jobs that I would actually be able to be mostly hands on and creative in? And if so what would they be?

 | The construction of a high speed train within the United States would not only create jobs in fields ranging from science and construction to engineering and food service. The potential to create jobs now and even more jobs in the future is incredible. If you think that the construction of a high speed train is something that the Federal government should finally get involved in then go ahead and follow this link and sign the petitio. If you think it is a bad idea then go ahead and voice your opinion as well, I'm interested to hear both sides, get some visibility on the issue and see why the government hasn't acted on this potential gold mine of opportunity for economic stimulus and job growth.

 | I am very interested (career-wise) in the areas of construction, design, and engineering, which is why I've decided to look into both of these fields. Can someone please explain to me what the difference is between Architectural Engineering and Civil Engineering (preferably the Structural branch of CE). In which of these two fields do people have better/more secure jobs?

 | On certain websites I've found that Civil engineers are the basic engineers when it comes to building and construction project, be it buildings, bridges, highways, etc. and Structural engineers are more specialized towards structure design in specific projects such as buildings or bridges. What I need to know is what are the specific differences in jobs, responsibilities, salary, and and level of workmanship [that is to say how high up each on is ranked in the construction field. Thank you very much to those of you who take the time to answer this and a special thanks to those who answer it thoroughly and completely.

 | I want to go into civil engineering, but I'm not sure which discipline I would want to focus on. It's between either construction and structural for me, but I feel like they are very similar. Could someone tell me a couple pointers explaining the difference between the two?
Thanks a lot in advance!

 | What kind of an engineer would supervise and direct projects such as bridge building, road building, building towers, building windmillls in the sea, and by direct these, I mean that this engineer would be present at the site during the entire construction process and be outdoors the whole time with the construction workers. Would a mechanical, civil engineer do this type of work?

 | I want to earn a high salary from engineering after university, and originally I wanted to become a petroleum engineer but people have been telling me that it will diminish in not too long so I don't want to be screwed over and be in loss of a job. I have been thinking about environmental engineering because i've heard that that will boom in ten years and will have many job opportunities and can get a high salary. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me out and make things clear for me. I have already applied to A&M and I am waiting for an acceptance letter, thank you for your answers!
