I'm thinking about becoming an architect to design homes and other structural buildings. However, what exactly does an architect do? If you are a licensed architect, please describe your typical daily schedule. In addition, what are the characteristics and personalities that a professional architect should possess? Do they have to be artistic and good at drawing/sketching? Do architects just help design and draw structures or what else do they do? Do they have actual hands-on construction experience? What are the steps to becoming a licensed architect? A thorough and vivid picture of the blueprint of an architect would be greatly appreciated....thanks!

My particular academic interest is Geomorphology - the study of landforms. I'm a bit confused as to which degree to study, as this interest seems interdisciplinary. I am most interested in the lithosphere, glaciology, tectonics and topography.

Yesterday, she wanted me to type a letter, but she stood behind me and watched me type. I smiled and said, "I feel nervous when someone's watching me type". She said, "I like making people feel nervous". I only wanted to be nice and assert myself. Would anyone else feel nervous about being watched when typing? Do you think she sounds a bit of a battleaxe? EXCELLENT responses on here already - thank you.

I work for a company that does large facility design and retrofits. Essentially, we come in and determine how to make the building(s) more energy efficient and give the customer newer equipment that will reduce cost and create a more enjoyable environment in the building. I have been doing this type of work for 2 years now, received my mechanical engineering degree, and am licensed by LEED. My question is, can I offer this "consulting" service that we give our customers to homeowners and still be employed by my company. My company does NOT do work with homes so I am not imposing on their potential profits or creating a conflict of interest. I would only do this part time and would not do the work over my main job. I just would like to offer this service on the side and make some extra cash. Since I am only offering my services to home owners, there should be no issues with obtaining insurance and since it is only advice and I won't be doing any of the actual work, I am having trouble seeing what issues could arise. Please, if you are familiar with the personal consulting business, please offer you advice and experiences. Thanks!
