 | I have an old house that I have to tear down to the floor.
The land has been rezoned commercial.
The land lot is 50 x 200.
The house is 95 long x 35 wide x 25 high. {35 ft facing street}
I plan to tear off the roof, tear down the walls, and keep the floor.
Then I will build a concrete block shell around the floor.
The resulting building will be a large empty space that I will use a television studio.
My questions are the following.
1. How much to build the concrete shell? {starting from the dirt around the house?}
2. How much for a flat, single side tilt membrance roof?
3. What are the major insulation issues and solutions?
4. Would this be difficult to construct?
5. Is there a simpler, cheaper way to open up the internal space of the house AND achieve a commercial exterior. {the internal walls ARE load bearing}
Please save your responses to helpful information.
I detailed the location of the job because I am still looking for a contractor.
The one builder that viewed the location suggested I proceed along the path that I am taking.

 | I had an Estimator from a well known roofing company in Fl. come to my house to quote me a price on a re-roof. I signed a contract to have my roof replaced. The job on my roof began. During this time, the roofing company (employer)let go off the Estimator (employee). Recently, the Estimator contacted me to inform me that the roofing company had not payed him for his job and therefore, he had no other recourse but to place a lien on my house. He stated that this would force his former employer, the roofing company, to pay him what they owed him. I now have a lien on my house and the roofing company is not responding to me nor taking any action to help me. I am shocked that an Estimator can place a lien on my house to claim money due not by me, but by his former employer, the roofing company. I now fear that I will need to encumber legal costs to dismiss a lien that has nothing to do with me but rather, an employer-employee issue. How can I have this unfair lien removed?

 | I need a total roof replacement, shingles, some wood, gutters & downspouts. I'd like to have a mid-range shingle installed. The roof is roughly 2800 sq. feet. What would a rough estimate be.

 | Job was for estimate only on mobile home roof. Homeowner acknowledged need of repair by calling for repair estimate. Affected roof area was not visible. Estimator indicated that if he knew the roof was so badly rotted he never would have gone up. His foot pushing through the area caused approx. one square foot hole.
Homeowner states that estimator caused damage on roof and he is liable to fix roof for free.
Contractor was called to home initially to check plumbing leak. While there he saw material loose and/or hanging on roof. He suggested to homeowner it might be a problem and would they mind if he went up and checked the roof. They said "help yourself'. The rotted area was not visible but was obvious when the contractors foot went through the roof. There was no injury to contractor but homeowner insists that he damaged the roof and wants contractor to pay to repair it. Contractor feels that the roof was obviously in need of repair and the damage he caused was due to pre-existing. Does it change the outcome if the contractor suggested he check the roof? With the permission of the homeowner.

 | I have a job offering of being an estimator. (training will be done by top estimator) I have never done it before but did help an estimator occassionally on my last job when I did A/R. I know some of what the job consist of doing. But the big picture of the job seems somewhat difficult. Is estimating jobs hard? if not,....how long does it take to learn? I am a bit nervous. I know I can do it. I have done many jobs (A/R, electrical work,remodeling house,roofing,machine operating,timekeeping) The estimator job is in chemical plant so I am familiar with plants. But not this kind of job. Someone reassure me. I don't know what the pay will be. But I have heard they make decent money. I live in Texas.
I know that they estimate how long the job will take,how many employees will be needed,how much material will be,etc. The offer is from estimator that my hubby works for. I am hopefully going to be doing the resume that is needed this weekend. I will talk to him then about the pay. My hubby said something about around $15 or $16 starting out. But didn't ask him personally. I know that the estimator is making over $40 an hour because he got another raise to stay with the company he is with,...and turned down $40 for another job. Hopefully will be finding out this coming week when I can start. Thanx for the help.

 | In my house there we have an outdoor bathroom that we'd like to make indoor, all we need to do is add a wall to and that will make a big room that you can get to the bathroom for there and in the big room add a laundry and maybe get some renovations on the bathroom to make them look nicer. . .
we'd probably also need to add more roof???
how much would all this cost, & are there any renovation sites that actually tell you their prices?
thankyou!

 | I just graduated and received 3 job offers. 2 for Assistant Project Managers in civil engineering (Heavy construction, e.g. bridges, roads tunnels, and other infrastructure, which I am passionate about) and 1 for Project Manager with a subcontractor for roofing. I was not interested in roofing whatsoever but they offered me about $10,000 more in my salary along with much better perks like company vehicle, gas card, credit card, cell phone, ez-pass and full healthcare instead of 50/50. Due to these reasons I figured I would take the roofing one. I have been there for 3 weeks and I HATE it. My boss is an arrogant pretentious A-hole, and as I previously stated I have no desire to learn or care about roofing enough to tolerate it.
Once I got there you hear of how terrible the place is and how they have had 6 PM's quit within the year. I fully see myself falling into that statistic. I have been looking for alternate work in the mean time (again for Assistant PM positions) and I was wondering if I should put my current job on my resume, and in date just put "2010." I want to do this because it would make me look much more "qualified" having that as 1 of my 3 jobs for work experience's. I have down 3 right now (2 are construction related summer work/internship with relevance) but 1 is a unrelated HS lifeguarding position. I figured adding this would bump off the lifeguarding job spot, and if I had all 3 that were (hands-on construction, Project Management/Estimator intern, and then Project Manager, it would not only show progress in the industry, but all would be relevant to what I am looking for now) I was thinking if they asked I could say that I had financial constraints with student loan repayments that were coming back and was forced to take the job temporarily to satisfy them, that's why I am looking for other work this early in.
My 2nd question is should I e-mail one of the other job offers I declined 3 weeks ago back and tell them that this position isn't a place I see myself at long term, and if any employment opportunity arises within the company that I'd hope they consider me as a candidate? Or will they just be p****d I rejected their offers and snub me?

 | A month ago we had our roof replaced from a tornado and the company we went with gave us an estimate to replace the roof and the gutters. The guy that gave us the estimate said that we would only be responsible for the deductible from out insurance claim. The guys came and did the roofing but the gutters are still not done. We have already given them what the insurance payed and there is still more then the deductible left over. The guy from the company said that we had to pay for the roof first and then they would do the gutters and then charge us for that, even thought the estimator they sent told us that we would only have to pay them when the job was done. So now they are charging us interest on the roofing part and we are still waiting for the gutters. Is this right???

 | I posted this elsewhere. I seek your assistance Yahoo Answers.
I work for a roofing company, Western Roofing Systems, based in Campbell, and I have come across a fact that has questioned my desire to stay employed there and has ached at my heart to say something. The roofing company in question will quote prospective customers differently based on the sole trait of the ethnicity of said prospective customer, or "Ethinic-Quoting" as was said at a recent sales meeting. (specific mention was made towards Chinese and Fillapino's).
I am a canvasser that goes door-to-door establishing contact and getting phone numbers of people with bad wood roofs and that are looking for free estimates. I report those phone numbers and names and addresses and our call center then calls the phone number and eventually sets an appointment for an estimator (salesman) to visit the home (sometimes the call center is left out of the process). Once at the home the "salesman" looks at the roofs condition, measures the square footage, diagrams the roof, and eventually quotes a price for the roof (stone-coated steel is the only material type the salesman push. Sometimes comp but rarely if ever. Stone coated steel comes in a varity of looks and colors as well). (these are factors that should affect price).
I wish to tell someone, and make people aware. I feel responsible since I am the first point of contact that represents the company at the door and face-to-face with people that eventually are met with a salesman that will treat them in a racist fashion. I am disgusted to be honest that race would play a part at all. I feel used. Is this racism? I need to know what others think. What I can do if indeed it is...
