Yard Laborer Job Questions & Answers

Sort by:
I live at Hwy 288 / S. Beltway 8 - south part of Houston / W. Pearland. With a stone garden, I usually do not have a regular yard worker. It is my experience that they do not take half day work and they are NOT reliable to keep their appt - they will show up to work on my yard only if they are running out of work with their regular customers. Spring is their busiest time. Once agin, several of them have already missed their appt in the last 2 weeks. Since I do not need regular yard worker, they have nothing to lose. Now, with flagstones / materials laying in my front yard, I need to hire day laborers to get the job done myself. Does Houston still keeps the Day Labor Center in 59 / Bellfountain? Please tell me where the day laborers are hanging out now a day, particularly in the W. Pearland area or South Houston area. Thanks a lot. Thanks for the answers. I am thinking to skip the middle company and hire the day laborer directly. I would like to know where in S. Houston those day laborers gather and wait for temp. works everyday. For everyone's information; I called Labor Ready today. For a flower hole digger, Labor Ready charge me, a COD, $25 / hour and at least for 4 hours. The reason for such high rate for an unskilled worker is that Labor Ready wants me to pay this hourly worker Unemployment Insurance!!! God forbids, once I hire temp. hourly worker from Labor Ready, I will be response for his unemployment 4 hours later!! They will give regular company a rate break for their hourly worker. Hey, if I have a company, do I need a day laborer? I was told by the yard worker, they will go Home Depot at 610 / 45 to hire extra hourly worker. However, among other issues, some of them only work for job worth >$100. One of the Home Depot told me that they ask HPD to repel those Day Laborers hanging around Home Depot. So, where is the gather place of the job waiting Day Laborers now a day?

Our labourers have broken a customers mantle piece whilst working on a job for us. The clients are away on holiday and we would like to replace the mantle piece before they come home. Can anyone tell me where i can buy a cast iron mantle piece? It's just the top shelf i'm looking to buy not the whole mantle piece. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

He was slamming Romney for his automated system to force employers to check to see if their workers are indeed legal, and Santorum said that he would not require homeowners to check their home laborers? Do you think he is watching out for his friends, because I know the average American is not employing illegal help to clean their house, mow their yards, clean their pools and have love children for them?

My contractor was supposed to start work on our house first week of June (stone patio, painting the inside of the house, some electric work and tile work). He didn't show up that week and we called him the very first day to inquire about it. Well, he says "oh sorry, i hurt my hand 4 WEEKS AGO, and so i'm running two weeks behind." He didn't bother to call us after his injury which I thought was very unprofessional. He's been very lazy about staying in touch with us about the projects and tries to weasel his way out of some work days. I do not feel that we should pay him the full amount per our contract. He is 4 weeks behind on his project (per our contract) and we are truly annoyed. We have patio stone sitting on our driveway for almost 6 weeks...its ridiculous. How do I tell him (at the end) that we are not paying him the full amount? Is it legal? I think it should be since he didn't fulfill his part of the contract time-wise. He was initially 2 weeks late (after his injury to his hand...which I looked at and was minor...plus, its not like he does all the work by himself). Then he got behind 2 more weeks. I can sue him right back. Our contract says that he should be done latest by July 3.

How much more would you pay to know your work was not done by i****************s? How much more would you be willing to pay a contractor, a restaurant, landscaper, grocery store if they could guarantee that all of their employees and vendors were U.S. citizens or had legal immigration status? Would this effect your decision at all? Affect! Sorry, I thought we were exchanging ideas not having a Spelling Bee.

I've done mostly customer service & do NOT want to do it anymore. While I understand the majority of jobs do have some level of customer service, I am looking for something that isn't predominantly CS. I really want to do Landscape & Garden Design, however I don't have a degree. I've posted my resume on 6 different job search sites & keep getting hits for CS, even though I put a cover letter up saying that's not what I'm looking for. I've been out of work for almost 3 months now & am getting very frustrated. Any ideas? Oh! I can't do Landscape Laborer due to previous physical injuries, so that makes it more difficult.

If I wanted to visit England (from Canada) during December 2010, how could I raise enough money for the airfare? I don't need any other funding - just a plane ticket. I'm not sure how much it would cost, but I expect it's probably over $650. (Remember, I'm only a teenager!!) -Horseyangel
