Art Therapist Job Questions & Answers

I'm looking into jobs in the art field and I came across "art therapy" and it sounds interesting, but I'd like to be able to make a living too. What exactly does an art therapist do? And what's the average salary? Also what are some other jobs in art field? Besides the common stuff, like graphic designer for example. Thank you!

My cousin wants to get a degree in psychology and become an art therapist working with children in a mental hospital. I have a few questions. What is art therapy? What does an art therapist do? How does art therapy benefit these kids and how will she interact with them, gently, harshly, directly telling them what to do? What is this job like? Do they have their own space or studio in the mental hospital? Do art therapists make decent money? Anything else you know, please share. Thanks.

Couldn't i attend an accredited college or university and still take the classes that are required in order to become an art therapist? For example, say i want to robbert morris university, which is located in PA and is mostly a busniess school. Could i take psychology classes and art classes that i will need in order to find a job as an art therapist? Or does it not work out like that?

I am very interesting in psychology and therapeutics/ counseling as a career. However, I am also very artistic and feel that having that in my job could make me really happy in the long run as well as help people. Is it possible to be both an MFT and a registered art therapist?

I'm interested in going into art therapy and in the long run working with war veterans. From what i've read in researching it, you have to get a bachelors in something either in the art field like a bachelors in studio art or on the therapy end something like a bachelors in psychology. Then you go for a graduate degree in Art therapy after that? I'm still a bit confused about that whole part. I'm at a community college now, taking basic courses along with ceramics classes since it's my main passion. On top of an explanation of how to be certified as an art therapist, where are good schools to look at for such degrees? also, what is the demand for art therapy, whats the probability of me being able to make a living through this career?

I am thinking about switching job fields and want to work on being a physical therapist. I have an associates degree in Graphic Design but want to use that with being a physical therapist. Kind of like an art therapist. But I want to find a job that can train me as well as go to school for it. Is there something out there like that?

I want to become an art therapist but I'm not entirely sure what I need in order to do so. Do I need any sort of schooling for it, or can I get into it right out of high school? I'm not entirely sure if University is my thing, but if I have to stick with it in order to do so, what do I need to do? Thanks for any info you might be able to offer.

I love painting and drawing and sculpting, and definitely want a career in it, but those jobs don't usually pay. I also want to be a therapist. I know there is an art therapist, but they aren't appreciated as they used to be, and not mango to them anymore. What are some other careers i could follow? I also love writing and poetry.

I am really confused about art majors. I want to be either an art teacher or an art therapist. I know you can major in art education, major in art therapy, or just major in art. But if I just major in art, will I be able to get any jobs? My goal is not to be a self employed artist. I want to work for a school or a hospital. I just don't know how to get there. More schools offer a general BFA in art so that is why I'm wondering. Could someone explain the difference to me please?

I like the idea of being a magazine editor, or something similar to it. The authority, organization, management all appeals to me. But I'm looking for something more in the art industry. I was planning to become an art therapist, and I'm still considering it, but the idea of being able to run things myself, be an authority figure, etc. appeals to me. I don't know what types of jobs are in the art industry other than art teacher, artist, and art therapist. I'd love to hear more ideas. I do not have my heart set on being a magazine editor. I am just looking for something with similar responsibilities.
