I've been designing joist layouts for residential and commercial applications. This isn't really paying the bills so I've been trying look for something that pays better, maybe using AutoCAD for different things, but I'm not having any luck. I go to Government sites and it seems like no one is looking for anyone with AutoCAD experience. Did I pick the wrong trade?

A few questions actually. First, does it pay very well? When I get out of school I'll have training in civil, architectural/commercial drafting, and AutoCAD. Second, is there typically much travel involved? Finally, is it a field that is in demand with opportunities for advancement?

I don't understand why this is happening. People are out work, while it's becoming more difficult to find new ones. I was out of work for two years as a drafter with Autocad. I tried looking, and I couldn't find a position in drafting available with CAD program since most only hires engineers. Again, why all of this?

I found a job in drafting. I earned a certificate in Drafting and Design Technology at College and worked with Autocad to correct drawings and create some new ones for the engineer. However, the job only lasted 90 days. If was still working there during 90 days or during a six month contract position, how would I make it become permanent or be hired permanently? Is it likely they will hire me after 90 days if I do very good with Autocad and the drawings?

Right now I am taking a course in AutoCAD. I want to take courses in CATIA, Solidworks, and maybe Pro-E. I want to use the courses to get into aerospace or engineering since I have a degree in math and not engineering.

I graduated college with a mechanical engineering degree but I could not get a job in mechanical engineering because none of the employers I interviewed with would hire me because I did not have any experience. I ended up getting a job at a bank. I was running out of money and had no choice. I have been at the bank job for several years now and I am feeling that my math and science skills are not being put to good use.
