I'm thinking about getting certified as a makeup artist. I would like to do theater makeup/free lancing for events. Is anyone on here a makeup artist? I've always been interested in cosmetics and been thinking about getting a job as a makeup artist. The thing is that pretty much everyone expects me to aim for a "better" job because they think makeup artists are dumb, materialistic women. What do you think?

I am a makeup artist with a few small free-lance jobs under my belt. I've done a few weddings and proms, but am having a hard time finding steady work. I applied to Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom but received email replies from both stating that they do not have any positions currently available. Are there any other stores or salons anyone can sugguest, or a better way to get my name out there so I can get more freelance jobs? I am in NJ. Thanks!

For a long time I've been wanting to get a job as a makeup artist, primarily working for a cosmetic company (such as Smashbox, NARS, Too Faced, or other higher end cosmetics) because I'm passionate about makeup and I feel confident with applying it on others. But I have NO talent whatsoever with hair, I tried to go to cosmetology school for makeup skills but I couldn't handle doing hair. So how far could I get in the makeup industry without a cosmetology license?

I know this may sound like a stupid decision but I'm just in the pre-choice stage right now. I am in school for nursing right now (prerequisites) but I really want to be a makeup artist/hair stylist. I would love to open my own shop someday, but before I choose to completely switch career choices, I was wondering what the job outlook for makeup artists is? (I live in Oregon btw) ***Also, please don't completely put down my idea. I'm looking for help, not someone to completely turn me away.

So for homework I have to draw symbols of a job I would like to have, and what type of science it uses. I am interested in being a special effects makeup artist, and I know for that job you have to know stuff like how the skin reacts to certain stuff. Other than that what othe type of science related stuff do you need to know? Also it would be helpful and appreciated to know some good symbols to represent that job.

For my geometry class we have to do a project talking about how to apply geometry to the real world. My geometry teacher said that we could pick a profession that we are interested in and use that and talk about how we use geometry in that profession. I picked a makeup artist because that is what I would like to be. If anyone has any ideas of how geometry can be used in this profession please let me know!
