What education, job experience or skills do I need in order to become an artist? Wow dave, you really gave me a whole lot of inspiration. I never would have thought to look into buiseness. I do love traveling and i want to live in a motorhome so that will work out fine. I also have a passion for anime.

Like the title says, what does a illustrator do other than drawing children books. Are illustrators free-lanced or do they work for companies/publishers. How much do they get paid, meaning their actual salary. Do they get paid hourly or get paid for each drawing they produce.

I'm currently enrolled in Graphic/Commercial arts, yet my school has a "Graphic Design" major which is what I wanted in the first place. Is it really a big difference? Which gets paid more - and what types of jobs will I end up doing if I was a Graphic Designer as to a Graphic/Commercial artist?

Obviously most serious research jobs are out without more education, but I'd like more options. Teaching (elementary or high school) is the only one I could think of. Thanks.

Ones where you are going to to have a steady job, not worring about having to sell your art or something like that. I want to get into art but I am very weary of going 50-100 grand in debt at a good art institute because I dont really know what jobs there are in the art industry that are steady. I know artists better than me with way advanced work and they work mostly blue-collar main jane jobs.

When I am a little bit older, I would LOVE to work in the fashion business. Either starting my own clothing line, writing for fashion magazines, assisting photo shoots, or even helping out in fashion shows...anything. How can I get started in that? I am still young, but how can I begin? Should I take fashion classes? Switch my high school and go to one mainly for fashion? Any tips/ideas?
