I am being contacted for many contract-to-hire entry level UI designer positions these days, but I am hesitant to move forward with them because I am worried about relocating without securing a full time permanent position first. What are your thoughts on contract-to-hire positions for new grads? Are these positions soon going to be the norm in the IT field? Thanks.

I'm constantly looking for ads from companies that need website designers and it seems like I know everything I already need to know to design a website (I've already made several of them just for fun). I've got advance computer skills, a freakishly fast typing speed (although I'm guessing that isn't very important), it's easy for me to learn to use new programs, I know a pretty good amount of HTML, I'm really good with computers in general, and I LOVE designing websites. Problem is I'm not sure if that's enough... It's kind of like I'm missing some advance skills. So what kind of skills would an employer expect me to have?

I want to become a game art designer but I don't know where to start? I was going to go to the Art institute of Pittsburgh for game art but a lot of people told me that's not a good school. So does anyone know any cheap colleges that's around or in Ohio that would be good for game art? And also can I get some answers on how to approach a career like this?

Hi, I need to get a considerable number of toolbar and app icons, a couple of logos and some splash screens designed and developed for my new software UI. Anyone know where the best place to start would be? There seem to be so many icon companies and designers out there, I'm not sure who the best bet would be to go with. And please NO SPAM, I'd appreciate other developers with positive feedback who have actually had satisfied work done by a design company. Thanks.

I currently live in the UK, I am 19 years old and have a keen interest in most aspects of the gaming industry. I would love to start a career involved within game production, but I have no idea of where to start? My local college, careers advisers have no real idea also. If at all possible, i would be grateful if you could send me some information of how to gain access into this job path? E.g. - College courses, Intern ships, apprenticeship.

I know it opens in stores everywhere at 8 AM but I won't be able to buy it until noon or in the evening because I'm at work. Do you think they will sell out before I get to them? I heard people line up at the apple stores at 3 AM. I'm planning to buy it at Best Buy or the Verizon store.

I am starting freelance development again. I plan to develop applications in the areas of web, Facebook and mobile. I plan to start my portfolio by building 2 - 3 very small and simple projects that make use of these three areas. What I lack right now is a designer that can make my applications shine. So my question is: Where can I find designers who are starting out in the web design world who are looking to add design work to their portfolio the way I am looking to add development work to my own portfolio? Thanks for the HTML tutorial sites. I don't need to learn HTML/CSS. What I need is an individual to the the HTML/CSS work. I figure, if I want to run a successful freelance career, I should be focusing on the parts I know best and relying on someone else to do the parts I am not that great. I can do all the work myself but it would slow down my business since it would take me a few a hours what a web designer can do in a few minutes. I am a programmer. I am curious to know what would be the best place to find another freelancer that is a web designer.
