I know that I have to make portfolio to show what I can do. Where do I start finding people to land a job? What program do you suggest? Should I get the entire set of cs4 and css? How does the whole web designer job work? Do I just sell the layouts to people and companies that's it or do they also keep me to update whenever they need something to type in?

Since graduating from university I have only been able to get freelance work, working as a self employed Web Designer. I was wondering does this kind of experience count towards getting a job working for an agency that do web design etc.

My boyfriend is in his senior year in college and he's looking at different jobs such as Web designer, Software Developer, Computer Programmer, or a Database Technician. How much do any of these jobs pay? If you or someone you know work them do they like them? Where in the US does it pay better or worse? We have searched different places and we are getting many different numbers across the board so any info would be great. We live near Kansas City if that is relevant.

- What does a person (web designer/developer) doing this kind of job do all day? - What do they earn? - Is there a career path for such people? (What jobs can they move on to in the future? For example many Systems Analysts start out as Programmers and eventually, if they are good enough, become Project Managers or Network Managers.)

I responded to an ad for a part-time web designer and they are now asking me for a quote. It turns out the job to start is making very simple changes to their existing website-adding a couple of lines here and there, etc. Things like this, they say, will help them build a relationship with a designer and eventually lead to an overhaul of the site. Is this even worth my time? At the very least I would be charging them a minimum fee because, who wants to go through any hassle at all for, say, 40 bucks?

I will be starting a freelancing business as a web designer, and I don't know how much to charge for creating an entire website. A friend wants me to create a website for them from scratch. What is the typical price to charge someone to create a website that is about 4-5 pages? Where can I find a pay rates chart for specific web designing tasks such as adding a page to a website or creating templates if a client wants me to do small jobs like that?

Is this field too competitive or can someone seriously make a career as a freelance web designer? Is it also true that most of the jobs are being outsourced to other countries for cheaper work?

I have a project pending. My first solo project. Problem is I've had my first meeting with client all went well and I didn't give him any quote at all. But I said I'd research what was necessary to do the job and get back to him in two days Problem is I have no idea what the going rate is and as most web design companies seem to be rather shy offering online price list breakdowns then I have no idea how to get a fair figure as a quote. By the way I am an individual and not fully qualified web designer. I think my pages are competitive but certainly not the highest (corporate) quality sites but try to make them look as 'clean' as possible and take pride in what I do. Really need your help guys. Beginning to panic don't want to loose this deal as I have so many times before. PLEASE HELP: DEADLINE tomorrow

I have recently decided that I would like to become either a web designer or web developer...I spend quite a bit of time online and really would like to learn how to build my own website. I am thinking of taking a few courses at the Art institute of Washington so I can get a diploma in web design. I suppose I just wanted to ask if it would be worth while for me to do so? I see many job listing around the area for web designers so I wouldn't have a problem finding work if I have a good enough portfolio but is web design a good career path to choose?

I am an entry level web designer, and I always read on job descriptions that they are looking for developers that can create websites that not only look good on a computer, but also good on a phone. At least that is how I understand it. Does anyone know how I can get started on web development for mobile phones? Thanks
