Automotive Service Manager Job Questions & Answers

I am in the midst of trying to get an apprenticeship as an Automotive Service Technician in Alberta, Canada, and I would like to specialize in a particular brand of vehicle. So far I am considering BMW or perhaps Mercedes-Benz. However, I would be willing to apprentice with another make if it was worth it. Which company would be best to work for and provide the most opportunities? Please don't post hyper-biased opinions, but answers based on empirical evidence and experience would be best. Thank you!

I just applied to walmart, bestbuy, and harris teeter using their online applications. How long does it take for them to contact me about a job. I'm 18, I have zero job experience and I need to start working immediately to make money to pay my college bills or else I can not go to college next semester. What would be the quickest and most guaranteed way to get a job anywhere and start working immediately?

Hello all I want to begin my automotive career at a car dealership but don't know where to begin. There are a few that have openings for porters. I really want to work in the parts department and eventually become a parts manager.I have some education as I am 2 semesters away from earning an automotive technology certificate another 1 year away from my as degree from my Junior college. I wouldn't mind working as a porter to get my foot in the door but not sure about advancement opportunities. Can you go from porter to parts person? Or is it just a dead end job.

I'm 25 years old and I've been working at a 2 screen movie theatre since I graduated High School. It wasn't until 2011 that I got promoted to Assistant Manager. My duties include;opening up and closing the theatre, working the projector's, processing reports, handling money, and all the other regular duties (like cleaning up, concessions sales, and ticket sales). I think I've been here long enough and want to work somewhere else where I can get better pay (10.00/hr) and recieve benefits of some kind. I could work at a larger theatre, but I'd rather try a new job. I want to look for a new job that will pay me more and guarentee me benefits, but need help figuring out where to apply with the work experience I have. So what kind of jobs or companies can I work for with my type of work experience/background.

The new car I bought wasn't properly prepped, and now -- three months after buying the car -- the rail-dust residue has to be un-done. My concern (worry, really) is that it won't all be attended to; that it wil be done in patches; and that further down the road, more instances of rail dust will present themselves. Should I insist that the entire car be treated, whether or not rail dust is visible? I suspect they'll simply treat the spots they can see. I do NOT want to have to be running back to the dealer every few months to have this fixed. What do you suggest I do/say to help insure the problem gets fixed once and for good? Should I involve management? I definitely will tip the dude who does the work (though I don't expect to have to pay for the repair service), but should I tip him up front and let him know there's more if -- and only if -- he does a boffo job? Is that insulting? I do not want to antagonize the guy who's gonna repair my ride, ferchrissakes. Advice?

I was always told that an associate's degree is equivalant to a high school diploma. and usually diplomas cant get you any good paying occupations. i am too lazy to study and get a bachelor's degree from college, i dont even know what major i want to do. when i look through the newspaper ad, many jobs require at least an associates degree and couple years of experience. i dont have experience or anything, i dont know where to start. can someone tell me what kind of job i can get with an associate degree with no experience? and what is the pay for each.

Penn Foster correspondents school has a course for auto technician. I just don't see how you can learn how to fix vehicles through the mail. So my question is how do I become an auto mechanic and is it even possible? I don't know anything about cars and I am not in love with them either. However I do like making money and saving money and fixing cars seems like I could make money fixing them as well as save money doing my own repairs myself. So is it possible for somebody like me to learn how to work on cars and is there an actual school? Most people I know just kind of picked up many things through trial and error doing it themselves and whatever little bit they learned in auto shop at school. I never took auto shop and have usually paid somebody to do the work. Now I would like to learn myself. I live in Hartford,Wisconsin and was wondering if anyone knows of a school where I could become a mechanic? Thank you for the info. Would some of these correspondence course at least be enough that I could fix my own vehicles with confidence? I understand having to be an apprentice, I really don't want to be a mechanic but just get enough knowledge and know how to repair my own stuff or my family's so they are paying ridiculous prices when ever something goes wrong.

In the sense that you have to plan your project, draw out everything, then after you make the product, you have to evaluate it and say what is good and bad about it? Also with a engineering degree, is it flexible? Like can i go into finance/actualize services with a engineering degree?
