I work 8-5 M-F and I want to get a waiter job at night. Normally you have to interview at the resturants when its slow, between 2pm-4pm. My current boss is going to notice its wierd when I take late lunches this week while I am looking. Should I tell him? What would you do or what have you done in the past?

I have been taking classes in NYC for the past year, commuting in from Connecticut nearly 2 hours away. I finally found a job in Greenwich, CT working as a waiter, after pounding the Manhattan pavement to no avail.( that was a good thing). Waiters jobs to seem to be as flexible and money making as they used to apparently be. Well, so I at least got a job withing an hour from the city, but I see myself quitting that one soon after moving. How is one going to work at anything to get by, and yet be able to do plays, showcases, etc...so one can invite agents, and hopefully get representation...and then be able to go out on auditions..I can't think of any thing, unless your a succesful real estate sales person..and then that take all of your time if you are indeed successful enough at it to live.

I'm a college student looking to earn decent money. So I'm looking to become a waiter at a restaurant but I don't want to have to go through being a host then becoming a waiter. I have excellent customer service experience and skills so I'm hoping my resume will get me the waiter job. Do you guys know of any large national chains that hire waiters with out waitering experience? I rather not wait a year at a restaurant to become a waiter.

There is a new Yard House opening up and I was thinking about applying for a waiter job. However, I have never been in the food industry before... I do have 5 years of experience in customer service. So, do you think that I would qualify for this job or are they generally only looking to hire waiters that have experience?

Is it legal to request face shots & physical attributes on a job add for a restaurant servers job in New York City. I have come across many adds were different companies are requesting (face shots, portfolios & even specific physical attributes) for simple Server/Waiters Jobs in NYC, is this legal and how can I go about it as it is obviously a act of discrimination.

My friend has ink on both arms and neck with some simple earrings. He said he was denied getting a waiters job and they treated him bad. They even brought up the fact he had tattoos! He's white too. Can a employer be racist against your tattoos? Is there a way of reporting them or something? Aren't they law against skin color racism?

I've been in the US for 7 years, I still don't understand why American like to give tips for almost anything. For example, go to a restaurant, customers need to pay their dishes + taxes + tips. It's crazy. The restaurant should pay the waiter to serve customers. Why customers need to pay extra for it? Someone may say waiter earns a little; however, it's not true. A full time waiter can earn more than $3000 a month. The waiter just needs to bring dishes and asks how you feel whatever. Many people pay tips in cash, so they don't even need to pay taxes for the tips. Why people want to go to colleges? Want to make money just find a waiter job. Bartenders can make even more. What do you think about it? Actually busboys only get a little tips from waiters as I know in most of restaurants. For the $2.75/ hour they earn, what I said was a restaurant should pay more for them. They offer the service should not ask customers to pay extra. Also, the low wages are fair because it's not hard as labors who work under heavy sun, it's not like a dr. spending a lot of time to learn the skills. What I see to pay the tips about 15-20?f your dishes is unfair. What do you think? Two of my friends they really make more than $3000/month. I'm in IL. We tip15?0?sually. Some people they pay more than it. I saw several times people tipped $100 for $50 dishes.

I work as a Busboy at a restaurant in New York State. I have been working there for approximately 8 months. Since the spring time is coming up, the owner of the restaurant has been hiring many new workers. However when asked for a promotion to a waiter, i was denied because im not a girl and waiter is a female job and busboy is a mans job. Is it permissible to deny somone a position or job because i dont fit the requirements of the owner based on gender?
