News Analyst Job Questions & Answers

First, a critical distinction has been lost in this debate. NPR News analysts have a distinctive role and set of responsibilities. This is a very different role than that of a commentator or columnist. News analysts may not take personal public positions on controversial issues; doing so undermines their credibility as analysts, and that’s what’s happened in this situation. As you all well know, we offer views of all kinds on your air every day, but those views are expressed by those we interview – not our reporters and analysts.

News Corp owns both Fox Broadcasting and Fox News, so Sarah Palin's salary as a Fox News political analyst is coming from the parent company's general pool of profits that includes those generated by Family Guy. If she has any principles, shouldn't she quit her job (again) as a form of protest against the slurs Fox has made toward her children?

So I have a BA in Psychology. Honestly, it's hard finding a job because I need to get my masters. I realized I don't want to pursue a career in psychology. My heart is in journalism and I was told you would be okay just getting a Bachelors for that. So I was planning on applying at another university for a journalism program. I heard it's hard to get grants but I still think it would be cheaper for me to go with a BA in journalism instead of my masters.

Trying to decide which major I want, I think I want to go into finance, but I am not sure. I know I am going into business- at a business school. Also, if there are any people who have careers in finance, what do you specifically and do you like your jobs? Because I have an internship in finance and accounting and it is pretty boring...but it is just because they don't give me enough work to do so I don't feel like I have had the true experience.

Now I must find out what kinds of jobs to apply for with my new degree in history. (I was going to teach history, that's why I was able to graduate) For years I had things all planned out - I would apply for teaching positions, but now that's not an option. What to do?
