How Does One Become An Athletic Director?

I heard that you have to coach for a few years before becoming an athletic director.Is this true? If not, what do I need to do? I will have my Bachelor's in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management. Also, what's the job outlook for this career in the next year or two? Thanks for the help!

The athletic director is like the coach of the coaches. Obviously some coaching experience would be involved. A major in business administration and sports management could be a good combination too. There are relatively few jobs for athletic directors though. Your background in business will make you more marketable... More
