I am a guitarist with almost 3 years of experience, plus I also have experience with recording equipment. My lifetime dream is to become a musician that makes a living playing music. But I know I'm not nearly experienced enough, and I need a day job as a backup plan because I know how hard the music industry is to get into. I'm going to college pretty soon and becoming an audio engineer as my source of income until I can get on my feet and make money with my profession. Is this a good idea for somebody who eventually wants to become famous and well-paid as a performing musician?

My parents want me to go to a college to get a degree in Audio Engineering. They don't want me to go to a community college or schools that offer certificates. I'm having a hard time finding a college since Full Sail is too expensive and most colleges don't offer the degree. Does anybody know if I really need a degree to become an Audio engineer?? I live in Florida btw and i can't go to school out of state.

Hi everyone, I am currently an electrical engineering student. I've been learning circuits, op-amps, and became interested in specifically sound engineering, so maybe that can be one of my career options. Personally I also really love music, music theory, composition, and I think mixing sounds would be an exciting job for me. So I was wondering, would audio engineers require an electrical engineering background? Also, what is the salary like for audio engineers? Thanks.

I've spent 6 years running a non-profit performing arts organization and have greatly enjoyed it. I'm trying to decide between 2 different fields of study right now - Audio Engineering and Arts Management. I live near Hollywood, and can't leave the area because of the custody arrangement for my kids. My true love lies in Arts Management, but I suspect that job prospects (with good pay) are probably not that plentiful! The organization I've run for the last few years is not in a position yet to provide pay. It's still an all-volunteer group. So that's not really an option now that I have to actually support myself.
