 | Why I said what I said about analysis:
(i) Growth - The majority of the job is simply looking at what's driving earnings, and how sustainable growth is likely to be. Not being flippant or over-simplifying, but that's it. After you get the relevant industry metrics, examine room for growth, analyze the competitors,
(ii) Value - After screening for cheap stocks, it's a relatively straightforward process examining why they're cheap.
Of course there're going to be people that see something no one else does and end up as top analysts with a 1000-bagger. Real talent.
But discounting the ultra rare lightbulb moments..
The vast majority of the job is largely information-gathering (talking to management, suppliers), making an educated guess (forecast) and applying simple valuation methods.
Are you telling me you honestly believe someone above average can't do that?
I'm not part of the "nepotism" crowd by the way. If I went by mainstream statistics on IQ, then my pay should be in society's top 0.5? But it's not and i'm being paid peanuts every month?
My first degree was in electrical engineering. I've yet to come across anything vaguely as complex as the quantum mechanics, discrete math or multivariable calc an average engineer does in school?
So besides the Eureka moments finding a monster bagger.. I honestly fail to see what's so difficult or complex performing an analyst's role making educated guesses?

 | Well this technology, developed by PRIVATE SECTOR petroleum engineers, may enable US to do just that. And 'create' more jobs right here in America than than the re-distributor-in-chief claims to have created.
Check it out. This is big news!
New drilling method opens vast oil fields in US
Excerpts:
A new drilling technique is opening up vast fields of previously out-of-reach oil in the western United States, helping reverse a two-decade decline in domestic production of crude.
Companies are investing billions of dollars to get at oil deposits scattered across North Dakota, Colorado, Texas and California. By 2015, oil executives and analysts say, the new fields could yield as much as 2 million barrels of oil a day - more than the entire Gulf of Mexico produces now.
This new drilling is expected to raise U.S. production by at least 20 percent over the next five years. And within 10 years, it could help reduce oil imports by more than half, advancing a goal that has long eluded policymakers.
"That's a significant contribution to energy security," says Ed Morse, head of commodities research at Credit Suisse.
"Petroleum engineers first used the method in 2007 to unlock oil from a 25,000-square-mile formation under North Dakota and Montana known as the Bakken. Production there rose 50 percent in just the past year, to 458,000 barrels a day, according to Bentek Energy, an energy analysis firm.
It was first thought that the Bakken was unique. Then drillers tapped oil in a shale formation under South Texas called the Eagle Ford. Drilling permits in the region grew 11-fold last year.
Now newer fields are showing promise, including the Niobrara, which stretches under Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas; the Leonard, in New Mexico and Texas; and the Monterey, in California.
"It's only been fleshed out over the last 12 months just how consequential this can be," says Mark Papa, chief executive of EOG Resources, the company that first used horizontal drilling to tap shale oil. "And there will be several additional plays that will come about in the next 12 to 18 months. We're not done yet."

Hey I'm all for developing VIABLE alternatives. But let's not screw ourselves in the mean time. Look around folks. No one gives a d**n about the USA but Americans. WE need to cover our own azz!
And as far as "domestic oil being sold on the world market".. That's obviously a great point and something that needs to be addressed. SO how do we fix that? Do we need to fix that? If so, how can we do it without giving the feds control? What about Individual States making those decisions? For all the trash the left talks about Palin, she kicked azz and took names when dealing with the oil companies in Alaska!

 | I'm 16, going into my junior year in highschool, and alot of my friends think I could be a good engineer. I know there's different types of Engineering, but I don't know which one I would best fit.
I like working hands- on, i like fixing things, and I USED to like math alot. I'm not sure if I still do because this year in school I didn't try and I got some bad grades and my interest in math went down.
The reason im asking this question right now, is because I want to start working on my assets on engineering. I recently discovered that I don't have a college fund or anything, so I would either need to raise the money, or get a scholarship. I just really want to work hard and make it in life. My parents never went to college and they're 50+ years old, still working their butts off to support this family.
Please, I just need some help or advice on what to do. I really need some help.
Thank you and God bless.
Please email me at Kennygmez@yahoo.com
If you have any advice for me, or if you could help me with this situation. I would greatly appreciate it :)

Chronicle of Higher Education 2012:
State of US Higher Education in 2012
********************************************************
Chronicle of Higher Education 2012, (US)
The number of people with master’s degrees and Ph.D.’s collecting food stamps and other government assistance has more than doubled between 2007 and 2010, The Chronicle of Higher Education reports.
Over 300,000 of the 22 million people with master’s degree or higher were receiving some kind of public assistance in 2010, according to the Current Population Survey by the U.S. Census Bureau. Some 44 million Americans overall are collecting some kind of public assistance and those numbers are dominated by those with less education.
However, between 2007 and 2010 the number of people with master's degrees who received food stamps and other aid climbed from 101,682 to 293,029. Those with Ph.D.'s who received assistance rose from 9,776 to 33,655. The Chronicle reported the figures were based on research done by the Urban Institute’s Austin Nichols and based on the 2008 and 2011 Current Population Surveys done by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Labor.
The numbers could even be worse. Karen Kelsky, a former tenured professor who now runs The Professor Is In, an academic-career consulting business, told the Chronicle that “people don't want their faces and names associated with this experience."
"It's gone beyond the joke of the impoverished grad student to becoming something really dire and urgent," she added. "When I was a tenured professor I had no idea that the Ph.D. was a path to food stamps."
