I've been using Ableton Live lately to DJ and manipulate tracks. When I've seen people preforming laptop sets they usually route sound through an external soundcard. If I plan to to use Live with a professional sound system (i.e. a small club setting), should I invest in an external sound card or would an 1/8th inch to RCA jack directly in to the mixer do the job?

I'm trying to help a friend record for a song. He has a studio built in his house. The mic is wired to a sound board. Normal we have to record on that board and when we are done it burns to a CD then we have to put it on the computer for editing. I was wondering if there was a way I can record from the soundboard straight to the computer?

I'm a young director and i'm pretty much familiar with what sound design is, what i'm wondering is pretty much where does the editor's job end and sound designer's begin... i mean is the sound designer responsible for syncing dialogue / adding sound effects etc? Or does that person just fix sound levels and clean up noise? I looked around online to find a detailed description of that job but couldn't find much what i'm looking for. If anyone could give me a detailed breakdown of that the job of a sound designer consists of i'd really appreciate it. Serious answers only please.

I need to buy a mic that will reliability pick up the sound of a gun shot. To be more specific I need to be able to distinguish the Sonic Boom (or reverberations of it), the sound hitting the paper, and the muzzle blast. It would also need to stand up to the very loud sound for many tests and not degrade the sensitivity of the mic. Maybe an audio expert can help start me in the right place?

I work in production and we do a lot of stand up comedy shows. I am looking for a camera that would work well to just set up on its own without extra attachments and get a solid video/audio track. It doesn't need to be super expensive just something that can do the job.

At the concerts I've been to, there are these people (near the center of the arena) who control all theses different types of technology like laptops and mixers. I think they also control all of the visual effects that are shown on stage. This looks really fun, i would like to possibly do this as a job when im older. Im in high school so this looks like a cool career choice. Could you also suggest some classes that i should take?
