Technical Services Vice-President Job Questions & Answers

A friend of mine is on the executive track and hopes to be a Vice President of the large highly successful organization he is working for. He has decided to hire a professional image consultant and couch to work on his appearance, communication skills, political skills, and approach. It is not cheap but he thinks it will work in the end because hard work and technical knowledge alone is not going to get him ahead in today's competitive world. What would you think of hiring a professional executive coach if you were moving into senior management?

I am trying to secure a call center management or sales management interview with Retriever Payment Systems. HR has my resume and a cover letter. Calls to HR have yielded the standard reply that if someone is interested in me they will call. However, I suspect that because I have had so very many jobs since moving to Houston, that HR didn't pass my resume on or a manager doesn't want to take a chance on me, which I understand. What they don't know is why I have had so many jobs and that except for the company that closed, I quit, and for good reasons. With two of the companies I couldn't make a living let alone their 'estimates', one company did not produce a quality product so too much time was spend on damage control, I was recruited from one company to another with growth opportunities and was promoted to management within the same corporation but differnet companies (its the one that closed). Hence my search for a quality company which is RPS's reputation.

Originally I began a position at a large corporation in IT. Then this corporation was acquired by another large corporation. About 1 year passed, and they decided to outsource their IT operations to a technical contractor. Hence, I could no longer work in IT. Since this ocurred they moved me into an administrative office support role. I am glad and grateful to still have a job with the corporation, and work hard every day. My day to day duties consist of running errands, stocking shelves, taking inventory of supplies, doing binding and print production jobs, helping with catering for meetings, cleaning and organizing offices, moving furniture, filling in for the receptionist, and many other office assistant related duties. Again, I am grateful for the opportunity, and the job I have but I don't see myself doing this forever. I have a bachelors degree in business, and graduate certificates in IT, and Information Systems. It seems like my skills are not really being utilized, and are actually degrading. I don't want to be a CEO, or a Vice President, or a Senior Analyst. I just want something more specialized and consistent with my education. This corporation specializes in HR consulting, Healthcare Consulting, Benefits Consulting, Retirement Consulting, Risk Management, etc. They are more of a professional services organization. I expressed some interest in Human Resources at this company, and have decided to pursue some graduate study in Human Resources. I was told that I have to work in this entry-level area of support for a while before I could be considered for some advancement out of office support. To a degree managment only sees me as more of an office-support person then somebody who could move into something more specialized. How does one, or how can one move out of these office-support roles? Should I continue my graduate studies, get more skills, keep learning more as a means to advance? Should I just wait it out at this company, or look for other external opportunities elsewhere?

A bank vice president offered me a job at the bank he works for; I currently work at a little cafe as a waitress, and he has been a "regular" for a couple of years. I'm 18 years old, and I have never had any other job besides this waitressing job! I am nervous that I would not be good at this new job..especially working at a bank! Anyway, I think that I will be doing something related to costumer service, because I am really great with people. But, I don't know how to do anything else! I mean, I have great typing skills, and people skills..but that is all! I don't know ANYTHING about finances, or even basic filing and secretarial work. Will they show me how to do everything? Has anyone ever worked in costomer service before? I am motivated, and I don't give up easily..but, what if people laugh at me because I don't know how to do different tasks? Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Hey guys! I was wondering what else I could do to boost my chances of making it into the Air Force Academy. In 8th grade: I was President of my Student Government Association, National Junior Honor Society, and Vice President of the Key Club. I was also running track, in Relay for Life (A Cancer thing,) I tutored Math, Morning Announcer, Yearbook Club, In orchestra (since 5th grade,) student ambassador lego robotics, and a lot more. My cumulative GPA for middle school (since 6th grade,) is a 3.9 (I got one B in middle school). Now I'm in 9th Grade, and I'm in my school's SGA, I'm a student ambassador, I have pretty much all Honors Classes. I'm Class President, and I'm in my school's AFJROTC Program. In the program, I'm only an Airman Basic, but I will soon be promoted, I am also on my school's Drill Team. In the spring, I plan on playing softball. Idk if this will hinder my chances of making it in, but at my school we have these college-level classes called STIs. and In middle school, we apply for it, and I made it in, that's why I go to this school. It counts as college credit and everything. I made it into the Criminal Justice Program. There are many things to choose from like Engineering, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Health Occu., Biotech, Cosmo, Electronical Constructions, Automotive Tech, and a bunch of other ones. I was one of the 20 people selected, (Anyone in the whole County can apply) and I have a fountain of community service hours. I've been dreaming about becoming an Law Enforcement Safety Officer ever since I was little, and I can't wait to apply! It's my dream job. Is this good enough?
