I hate my job and I want to escape it most days. I pull in $11.84 an hour with benefits, about $350 a week. Sometimes I think about just ditching my job and waiting tables, but I have bills to pay, so I am afraid to take that chance. As a good waiter, did you make enough money, and if so, what type of restaurant was it at? I only have experience as a host at Applebee's for a year, so any ideas would be appreciated.

Just wondering because I had to quit my last job(which was Target). I was very sick and I really didn't have any other options but to voluntarily quit. I'm back healthy and now I'm able to work. I'm just curious because I've put in a lot of applications and I'm qualified for the positions but, I have not gotten any answer back from any of the jobs I've applied for. I mean I've put in a lot of applications every where and nothing?

Conversing with others, who are Joe Six pack types. I've actually encountered more people at corporate job sites (not so much managers, but those working in administrative positions) with a blue collar-esque background {not that they're handy with jigsaws or installing plywood, but perhaps their fathers were). Honestly, I'm more of the cerebral, waxing philosphical type but I rarely meet coworkers of that similar vein. I'm unemployed now and in future jobs, I don't want to feel like an outcast with coworkers. To talk about Dante or Kirkegaard would most likely irritate office mates. Sports does come to mind, as one possible topic that some enjoy talking about at the watercooler. I welcome other suggested topics!

I work in a retail environment(non-food) and our corporate office told us we must allow customers to use our unisex restroom. We are also required to clean this bathroom(wearing gloves, of course). The last few weeks, we have had customers defile this area to the point one coworker almost vomited while she was cleaning it. Another customer soiled himself and I could swear there was blood. I wound up cleaning the bathroom on this occation. Should my and I coworkers run the risk of getting some sort of illness because our corporate office requires us to clean the restroom? We are not allowed to tell customers they cannot use it. Is it in our rights to refuse to clean it? I work in NJ. Corporate is too cheap to hire a cleaning service. To the sexist that fires female employees for not cleaning the bathroom, we have MEN and women who refuse to do it. Does anyone know if this is an OSHA issue or should the Board of Health be notified? I am asking this not because I feel it's a job beneath me, I am worried I may contract some kind of illness while cleaning it. Some of our customers are not very cleanly. We already had the stomach flu in our store after a customer got very sick in our bathroom. I have to provide my own gloves as I am allergic to the ones they use. Another cost out of my pocket. Good luck trying to get reembursed. I noticed that no one was able to quote if anything here was considered something the board of health or OSHA should get involved in. Is there any guidelines from one or both of these divisions?

If you are earning a salary in a corporate chain retail management job and give your two week notice of resignation, but your resignation is made "effective immediately" by upper management, are you still entitled to that two weeks worth of pay? If not, why even bother with the two week notice for anything other than professional courtesy? This is the situation I am currently in. I don't want a gap in my employment/pay before my next job starts. I have heard from other managers within the company that a two week notice will be made immediately effective, but I know nothing about still getting compensated for those weeks. Do I give two weeks of notice and risk getting my job and pay cut early, or do I just wait and quit the day I am ready to start my other job?

I have been accused for drug use by one of my managers. Ever sense she started working at my place of employment she has been suspended 5 times and always has something negative to say about someone. She doesn't like my quietness and says to people behind my back that I must be high doing drugs. Should I quit? I feel harassed. I never call out, I'm always on time. I do my work properly only to get smacked with this.
