I am currently an executive assistant at a top twenty hedge fund. I am incredibly bored with my job but seem to not have the resume to find something more demanding or creative-possibly in investor or public relations. I have worked for some of the best investment firms in the country but always as an assistant-though typically for the "boss"-I've worked for the CEO of a mulitnational company, regional manager of one of the most well known investment banks and, as I mentioned before, presently for the head of a hedge fund. I have a degree in history/English as well as various securities licenses. I'd like to move into a position that would allow for learning and growth into a new field but am not interested in sales or financial planning. Any ideas?

Well, in a typical investment bank, who's job is it to liaise with companies, as well as analyze financial reports of other companies more specifically ie not general macro analysis but more company specific, when needed? Operations, investment bankers, corporate finance, or just their in house accountants? or, is there even such a job? how about in other financial institutions then, is it generally the same?

I signed a contract with a company, working as independent contractor yet I'm taking on many employee functions. If, in fact, I'm more of an employee than an independent contractor is the entire contract null and void? Specifically, must the employer still pay me our agreed upon commission set forth in the contract even though the term 'independent contractor ' may be misused? Can the employer use this misused term to get out of paying me my full commission? We both signed the contract, of course.
