Sr. Financial Analyst Job Questions & Answers

I recently decided to update my resume, mostly because I haven't done so in a while. The first thing I noticed is that I still have my internship experience. Since then I have had 5 years of full time experience and two promotions: Jr. Financial Analyst -> Financial Analyst -> Business Analyst -> Sr. Business Analyst. As of now, with all of my experience my resume stands at a page and a half. If I cut out my two internships, I can can possibly keep it at one page. But I LOVE my internships. They were very relevant and helped me get my first job at a huge phara company. I know, I'm sentimental. Do you think I still need them? Do they provide any benfit after 5 years of progressive experience?

I have a job offer in which I would be working 3 main functions, doing financial analysis, marketing database development and maintainence, and working on marketing and operations projects. I currently have an analyst title (marketing research analyst), and would rather have a title that indicates a promotion, as it is a pretty hefty salary increase. The company has indicated they are flexible with they title, which they have named Senior Business Analyst. (the senior part doesn't do it for me in terms of showing what I would like to) I don't know if they would go for an AVP title, but if they would, AVP of what? Marketing and Finance? They do not have an AVP in either role currently, though they have a number of AVP's in other areas. They might be more apt to choose something in between Sr. Analyst and AVP. But what would that be? The position reports to the EVP/CFO and is under the Finance area. This is the banking industry. Thanks in advance!

I've been with the company ($1.5 billion in revenues) for 16 months and was promoted from a Financial Analyst to a Sr Financial Analyst. My job duties are not changing; management felt that my skill set and work quality were well deserving of the Senior designation. I have 11 years of experience, a CPA, and spent 3 years in public accounting (Big 4). My employer has gone through 3 mergers in the last 24 months which has led to high-turn over and a massive hiring initiative. I've been promoted at previous jobs and always received a raise. The $1,500 bonus doesn't roll into my base salary. Merit increases were average - 3.33? I told my boss I was disappointed and felt the company was paying below market. I have done research and found I'm being paid around $5.5k below the lowest point in the pay range for someone with my yrs of experience and skill set. Is it normal or typical to be promoted and not receive a raise?

I currently work for the government of a capital city. I have been a lead procurement analyst (2yrs) and a sr. financial analyst (1yr). I am now an executive director seeking transition back into the private sector. Previous private sector experience is in marketing analysis / program management (18 mos). I have a BA in Economics, MS in MIS, and MBA. Job boards aren't working, school career centers aren't helping much, and my personal network is exhausted. I'm looking for an analytical role in finance, procurement, supply chain, IT, or marketing. If you can help me, please leave your email, what company you work for, and how you are willing to help. No scams or MLM responses please.

Hi, I work as a Sr Financial Analyst at a fortune500 outside NYC. I am finishing up my Part-Time MBA this spring through a top50 program with a 4.0. I have been with my employer for 5 years, joining right after college. I have been promoted several times, I am considered "Top Talent" and "Executive Resource" and have received the top performance rating for the past four years yet my salary hasn't kept pace with the market, in fact I am about 30?elow what my classmates are earning and many of my co-workers have left the company with better offers. I have mentioned the disconnect in salary during some recent internal interviews for a new role they want to give me with much more responsibility, but not much has been done. I have received emails from recruiters recently, should I start looking elsewhere? If I do leave I will be responsible for repayment of tuition, is it reasonable to think a new employer will pick some (even a portion) of the $75k tab?

I'm planning on returning to school within the next couple years and would like some insight on the following credentials (preferably from individuals who hold these qualifications). I'm trying to research what field would be the optimal fit for me and which credentials would be the best fit. While an mba from a top school seems like a great foundation, great opportunity to network, figure out which path to follow, top jobs etc- I think my long term goal would be to have my own firm/business. So I'm not sure if the mba is the way to go for me, if it's too general, too much money etc. I feel like if I got the mba I would also need to get a 2nd credential as backup. A cpa/cfp combo, I believe would be more the path for me- but I'm wondering if anyone that has those credentials, can tell me if they're generally happy, how long it takes to get established, if it's difficult to get established, how many clients you have, what the general pay range is (i know this is a direct question but it's something I really need to consider). The info out there on these credentials and pay ranges is just very spotty. Or should I just say the heck with it and get all the credentials- kidding :) Background on me- mid 20's, currently a Sr financial analyst, I think I would prefer to have my own firm/business as opposed to working for a large corporation....although if the pay was significantly better at a large corporation over time, I would prefer the larger company.

I am a Sr. Financial Analyst. My company want to transfer me down south and my salary would be better than $100K per year. As it stands I make better than half that. Sounds great! It's the opportunity I have been looking for and have worked my whole life for. The catch - I will probably lose my child. I get my child on a 50 - 50 basis. I don't think the courts are going to let me take my child away from Mommy. What would you do? P.S. - I have no debt - everything I have - house, cars, etc. is paid for.

A little background on me. I have 4 years of accounting work experience, with 2 years of big four accounting work experience, and have been doing SOX for the past 2 years. I now have a potential job offer for a sr financial reporting analyst position, a position I really don't know a whole lot about as far as what the work is going to be like. This job will allow me the opportunity to rotate roles every 2 years or so to other areas such as FP&A, GL, Revenue accounting, etc. I have enjoyed my SOX / Internal Audit role, but as I am relatively young in my career, I am also curious if other roles might be an even better fit for my skills and preferences. At the same time I'm afraid that by switching roles, I will not get as much in depth experience in a single area, which may be viewed unfavorably by employers? I am particularly afraid of this, since I am hoping to eventually move up to a manager role, which might require more in depth knowledge of a specific area? For those of you already in the accounting profession, and are familiar with this, could I get your feedback? Thanks!

From being newly qualified to having it as a routine job, what is it like? I know this seems like a really broad question but things like, working hours when you start out in comparison to working there years, is it quite a repetitive job each day, etc, is there a lot of communication with employees involved or do you just get on with work by yourself mainly ,etc Thanks for help!

Two-years before the economic crisis, I moved in with my Dad from another city. Before getting an apartment of my own, I wanted to find a stable position with a high enough salary that would allow me to adequately pay for expenses. I've finally meet this criteria, but there are now issues with the economy. The last time financial analyst on the news and my parents was talking like this, I was in jr. high-school and George Bush Sr. was in office. Politics aside, I wonder if I should continue with my plan to move out on my own or wait until Economist paint a rosier picture? I would feel like a fool if I moved and lost my job and had to come-back to my Dad's house.
