I applied for an assistant manager job and I am very serious about this job. The job description calls for food service experience or the equivalent, I have none of which. However, the job did call for retail experience which I noted I have. I also have a college degree, an awesome reference who could speak very well on my customer service skills. I wrote a cover letter where I showed how flexible I am and how I am willing to work long hours. I highlighted my degree and retail experience and my immediate availability. I pointed out only the positives of why I am the right canidate. How much of an influence do you think having no food/ restaurant experience will hinder my chances? Do you think the positive will outweight the negative? What can I do to show how serious I am without going overboard. I plan to call this company on Tuesday to confirm they recieved my application and resume. What else could I say to gaurentee an interview and hopefully land the job?

Note, my hair is natural now it is not purple as in my pic. I look very normal and appropriate for that kind of job. Anyway, I've had a little over a year's experience is food service. About 5 months as a waitress, about 8 in fast food. Is this enough to work at a Starbucks? I am also qualified in servsafe to be a restaurant manager, but I'm not sure if you are required to have that at Starbucks since there's not much food besides breakfast sandwiches and such. Also, I'm 18. Thanks!

Or should i just change the objective? Thing is.. all of the applications and resumes submitted for these jobs are all reviewed by the same lady.

I've been working in the food service industry since I was 18, from dishwaser all the way to general manager, and now I feel like its time to get out. I have a business degree, but feel like I've never used it to my advantage. I'm looking to move in to the "corporate world, " but have no idea what positions my skills (people management, customer service, multitasking, etc.) would be useful for.

I just lost my job and I am looking for jobs as a waitress. I think it will be a great opportunity for me and even though its hard work I want to work as a server. I have almost two years of customer service experience and I am good with people so is there still a chance someone would like to hire me as a waitress even though I don't have food service experience? If so what tips would you give me to get into this type of business.

I have a job interview tomorrow and I'm a little nervous. I feel like I know the basics, but I have only had maybe 5 or 6 interviews before and they have all been pretty different and for jobs in retail or food service. This is my first "professional" job interview for an office job. Anyways, I'm nervous and was wondering what advice people could give me? Thanks!

Where I live many illegals operate small scrap businesses, and trucking companies, and food services, and construction businesses. It is hard to tell which ones hire illegals, and which ones don't, before using their services ask for citizenship verification of every person that will be working on the job. You wouldn't want a criminal remodeling your kitchen would you? It is not against the law to ask, and takes the guess work right out of play. When I walk into my local grocier, and the person behind the counter barely speaks English, I ask for a manager, take them to the side, and question the citizenship, I've even gone as far as insisting that a visa if there is one shown to me. It takes just a little effort on my part. If the police, and my government will not uphold my laws, I as a citizen am obligated to do so. Our police preach to us all of the time about reporting crime, and this appears to be the biggest crime in America. 20 Million Large By doing this I not only protect myself, but I protect the real immigrants by assuring they are getting the jobs, illegals are also stealing from them. I haven't heard much said on that issue. Your right it doesn't always work, but it puts the business on notice that you are checking them out. If gives the company a way to quietly fire the illegal, and hire a legal one.

I want to stay in food service but I don't want to work really late at night, on weekends and holidays, and a 40 hour work week would be great. What else can I do with my experience being solely in the restaurant business?
