 | I recently applied for a job for a line cook at Olive Garden, however I have no experience. What can I do to increase my chance of getting the job. I don't want to look like a fool when I talk to the manager and tell him I have no experience at a restaurant. Thanks

 | It's a family dining restaurant, not a fast food joint. No experience is required but I would like to come off as competent as well as have an idea what I'm doing.
What kind of interview questions should I expect?
Should I memorize things like the types of steak, the differences between rare/medium/welldone?
Can you tell me what a line cook really does? Are they general cooks who prepare nearly everything on the menu or are they specialized on specific dishes?

 | Hello! I'm an 18 year old aspiring chef. I just completed the baking and patisserie course at Le Cordon Bleu, and plan on starting the culinary course the next time it's offered.
My question is, how long does it take to get used to the high stress and fast kitchen. I don't have any experience in the commercial kitchen and would just like some insight on how it all works. Do you have your love of food after working as a line cook? I am fully willing to start from the bottom and work my way up.
Thank you so much in advance!

 | I currently work in fast food. Making a tad over 8 an hour. However I'm interviewing with a casual chain establishment. I was wondering what that may pay for an entry level line cook?

 | Asking on behalf of a friend seeking work in grocery, fast food, waitressing, line cook positions, or other basic employ. She has had a lot of difficulty and I don't know if that's just the economy or if the tattooes may be an issue. They are not very big but they are there just the same. And if they are a potential liability, are there particular jobs that may be more "tattoo-friendly"?
I hope to get more answers, but the answers so far are much appreciated.

Also, would flesh-covered ink tattoos to cover up the old tattoos be a feasible alternative?
I would hope that the bartending option was feasible, but I am curious about their options.
Thanks again!

 | I'm going to college for an associate's in Culinary Arts and until recently I thought I wanted to be a line cook, and eventually a chef at a restaurant. But at the same time I kind of want to consider other jobs, possibly something with more regular hours (not that I don't love cooking until 2 AM). I'd like to have time for a family and maybe an occasional vacation? And a decent paying salary would be nice. Any jobs that require a culinary degree that would fit this?
Also, I'm going to get an associate's in a field of management after I get my CA degree. So maybe that would help?

 | I want to get some money being a line cook or prep worker at some restaurant to get a feel for the business. The problem is that every restaurant calls for at least one years experience. How do you start your experience? Is the only way to start out as a dish washer and then work your way up? Is there another way?
