Do all government jobs in the United States and Canada require you to be bilingual and hold a university degree? Wouldn't a janitor working in a government agency be considered a government job too? Please give me some examples of government jobs ranging from entry level or very low levels up to middle range. Thanks.

Seeking information about something my father in law heard over the radio. Government jobs for Immigration Services so on and so forth. What are some of the jobs that I can do without any prior experience and where do I go to apply for them. Seeking 45k and up. I also am wondering what benifits exist for the grandchildren of people who have served in the armed forces. Are there any college benifits I can get using the GI Bill if my grandfather and other family members have served in the military?

I'm currently writing a story in which one of my semi-minor characters has a career in government. I and trying to decide if it is local - as in city or county - or if it is state. Anyhow, could someone please list the types of government jobs, both local and state, or pinpoint me to one on the internet? I am looking for something a little more complex than your typical mayor office. I had thought of treasurer, but I just would like to know the names of other such jobs out there. Thank you in advance.

I mean are the DOL and the DOT considered state or gov. jobs (I know that things like the Parks and Recreation jobs are considered city jobs)? The Dept of Foreign Affairs, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, etc. are considered other government jobs, right? (When I said other government jobs, I meant federal jobs).... Probably I need to clarify. Take the DOT for example. Why would the ferry system employed by the state government and not the actual federal government (shouldn't the ferries be a part of the DOT)?

Private sector companies pay for government jobs through taxes. If they didn't have to pay as much in taxes, they could hire more employees and produce more products and charge less for them. More products costing less means we could all afford to have more. Isn't that the definition of wealth? The more government jobs there are, the less wealth we all have. Unless you can name a government job that produces a product . . . waiting . . .

I have talked correction officers and they tell me there are plenty of illegal drugs in prisons. It seems there are so many government jobs that depend on crime they are not really serious about minimizing or eliminating illegal drug crime. They would be out of a job. I guess we are all part of a predatory world.

I am going to pursue a Masters in Public Administration but want to keep as many career options open as possible. I originally wanted to strictly work in a non-profit but since I recently discovered the plethora of government jobs that are non-political, my interests have changed. If anyone out there in the field has any experience, please let me know! Thanks!
