If government jobs are paid for with taxes from the private sector and the private sector is making less than the government workers how can it remain solvent? Here in NJ you have traffic cops making $150,000 a year and when the towns try and lay one off they go ape shit and start writing millions of tickets.

He drinks only in the evenings and doesn't get "drunk" or pass out/fall asleep before we go to bed for the night. He never seems to be hung over in the morning and never misses work or scheduled activities. He's very active: bicycles, hunts, motorcycles, wood-working projects, etc. He has a fairly stressful management job in government. I used to have a few drinks in the evening with him but have stopped in hopes that he would cut down on his consumption.

I am 57, due to retire at 60, have been a fully qualified dental nurse (had to give up due to health problems), re-trained as a secretary and earned my living for over 23 years doing that, drifted into elecronics and spent several years doing that before studying and working in employment law. I also worked in trading standards before being made redundant. At various times I've worked in an estate agency, local government, property management, and even stacked shelves in a supermarket, all temporary assignments. On 'signing on' for work (Job Seeker Allowance) I've been asked if I would be willing to re-train, and if not, why not. As what? plumber, brickie, IT, what for heaven's sake? I went to Job Seekers 'cos ageism is alive and well and I can't get a job doing what I'm qualified to do. If I can't get a job when I have lots of experience, what chance after doing another training course with no experience in that field?

I'm currently a college student studying engineering. My plan is to join the Coast Guard Reserve during my summer break after my second year of school and then attempt OCS after graduating to become an officer in the Reserve. I have two questions; will being a reserve in the coast guard seriously affect the amount of time I can devote to my education and will being an officer in the reserve help or hinder me in finding an engineering job? I'm not talking like an hourly wage job that doesnt require an education, I'm talking about a corporate administration/management job.

Not just resume which I submitted but long, extensive application form, questions about my career goals and willingness to relocate, where I heard about the job, etc. I find this stupid for a job where you go and crush grapes. It is not some management or government job. IT IS A TEMP JOB HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MANAGEMENT I AM NOT INTERESTED IN MANAGEMENT.

I still have a bunch of GI Bill tuition assistance laying around and am looking to finish my bachelors degree. I came across an online school checked accreditation, read a lot of reviews, and it checks out. The school offers three concentrations for their Bachelor of Science: Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies, Management of Personal Protection, and Intelligence Management. The job i would like to do is dealing with personal security details, but in the long run what do you think would be the best concentration for a job with the CIA.

This seems to be the core argument of the Republicans. It runs approximately like this: 1) The government is about management of money 2) Business is about management of money 3) Business in a free market is the best manager of money 4) Therefore business in a free market beats the government in management of money 5) Therefore let's eliminate the government and let business take over Do you agree with this line of reasoning? Geoffrey, so, corporations are people, but government is just a business?

Or should I get some experience before attempting to apply for a government job? I would be interested in many areas, especially finance, international relations and management positions. I can speak foreign languages too. Flyby: I understand what you mean and I've experienced the same but everybody has to start somewhere...I bet once you were a young job-seeker with no experience too. Learning professionalism requires commitment and some people simply lack that. Not everybody is like that though.

Hi, a friend of mine was just hired for a upper management job which is in the real estate/finance area. he will be presenting the companies business seeking investments and representation from financial planners/broker dealers for a established company which owns projects across the USA. an almost 6 figure salary and comissions and a expense account. He has no office and will work from home and will be responsible for California. He is told she will also have to travel, especially to the corporate by plane. This is his first position as an hired employee and one with a expense account. How much do companies usually offer for a standard expense account in this type of profession monthly and how does the company expect you to use the account, and do they give you a company credit card? one with a with a limit? He is waiting for contracts to review and there was lack of conversation about details regarding the expense account and was told his expenses will be paid for?

I came here almost 3 years ago, life was hard, so my wife got divorced with me as i went back to school to upgrade my skill. Now i've got my diploma in Business Management. However, jobs are still hard to find. I was so depressed to think about getting a minimum wage job again. I can apply for citizenship in this fall but i have to wait for approval and it might takes a year. I am weighting the options of giving up my citizenship or just get back into a survival mode again.

I'm a recent graduate looking for a job. I would like to investigate government jobs. I know that USA jobs.gov is a website that tells you which federal jobs are available. The problem is there are never many available in the area. A lot of the government job sites I have come across do not seem to be completely legitimate. They seems to be more style over substance, almost as if they are designed to simply get your email address and spam you. Any help would be greatly appreciated Can anyone recommend some good websites or legitimate avenues to finding government jobs?
