Most park ranger jobs are seasonal, and I know some park rangers move from park to park and pay their own relocation expenses. But does the park service provide any type of housing for them? Please only answer if you know, not if you think you know.

My whole life I've wanted to be a park ranger. I'm a college junior majoring in forestry. I've applied for over 20 summer jobs with the National Park Service and haven't had a single job offer. What am I doing wrong?

By outdoor recreation I mean things like guides, Park Rangers, and just jobs that people do in the wilderness. My uncle recommended places like Plattsburgh State, Colorado Mountain College and University of New Hampshire. Do any of you know of some similar places or other jobs like the ones I listed?

I served 6.5 years in the Navy as a nuclear power officer. My education is in Industrial and Systems Engineering. I'm currently a program manager for a defense contractor. But I don't enjoy this job. How do I go about becoming a park ranger while supporting my family (i.e. not going back to school)? I know park ranger/ forest ranger jobs are hard to get, and you usually have to take seasonal work with the service, with the hopes of it leading to full time work. Is there any other way? Thanks.

Are park rangers placed in a park at the discretion of the NPS, or do people apply to be park rangers at specific parks? Are rangers able to return to the same park the next season if they want to? Is it easier to get hired if an applicant is willing to work in a park that's more out-of-the-way and/or less popular, so they are competing against fewer job applicants? Thanks!

I'm interested in becoming a park ranger, but I'm also open to other possibilities that I might not have considered before. Which jobs have a lot in common with being a park ranger? Which organizations are these jobs with? In case it matters, I don't have a degree in forestry, geology, etc... but I do have a bachelor's degree in business. Thanks!

I am interested in becoming a national park ranger/law enforcement, patrol. I'm mainly interested in the patrolling aspect as opposed to a naturalist. I am currently EMT-B state certified in NC, I have obtained several Tactical Rescue, lvl 1 and 2, And several other certifications along with being a firefighter. I do plan on taking BLET once the next class becomes available. Is that enough to qualify and are these jobs very slim?

I just want to be a park ranger for 3 or 4 years because I need enough money to go to veterinary school. So, in Boston park rangers make enough money. But do I HAVE to carry a gun.....If they do carry guns, I would probably have to go with zookeeping.

To start off, I'm 23 years old and was in the Military as a MP for over 3 years. I have a lot of experience and training and I'm trying to use my experience to get me a job to start a career. And as of now, I am not going for the Park Ranger (Protection/Law Enforcement) positions because I have a lower back problem that might give someone the upper hand if it goes out during a struggle. I'm trying to get into the Park/Forestry Service and I'm trying to hold off on going to college right now because I know if I start College now, I'm going to be around 28 or so when I finally get a degree, and that's going to put me below a lot of younger adults who already have theirs. Also due to some issues I have, going to school becomes a problem for me. I go on multiple internship websites applying for Park Ranger internships along with Forestry Service internships. My last intern was my first one and I was a Wildland Firefighter Intern and received many certifications along the way, including Wildland Firefighting, Wildland First Aid, Child/Adult CPR, and more. I've applied for volunteer work, Park Ranger positions at USAJOBS, Internships, and other NPS websites. I'm not sure what else I can do. There must be people who have got a position within the Park Service without going to college. I didn't think you needed a Degree to clean campsites, or help someone out with information, or to clean utilities, or to drive around and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do, etc. I did what a lot of the Rangers do while in the Service. Most of the questions that are asked on USAJOBS, I'm answering with "I've accomplished without supervision and am considered an expert", or whatever it may be. Is the ONLY way to get into the Park Service, is obtaining a degree in something? Is that it?

I'm a senior in high school and I'm considering becoming a park ranger. I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on how to make myself hirable. I know I need a bachelor's degree to get a full time position, but how can I get seasonal positions? What should I major in? Is there something I can do to make myself more desirable to employers? Also, what related jobs can I get with a high school diploma?

I was dead set on becoming a California Fish and Game Warden, but I can't move 1000 miles to go to an academy. What other California jobs are out there that involve wildlife, law enforcement, etc? I don't want to only work in the city, that's why i'm not going for Sheriff's deputy or Police Officer. I checked out park rangers, but they seem to lack in the law enforcement part I want in my career.

I have been taking Zoloft for about four years, due to depression since childhood. I am preparing to get a degree in Forestry and would love to be a Park Ranger with the National Parks service. However, I have read that they have similar health standards to Law Enforcement and I am afraid my Zoloft prescription could keep me from being employed.
