I have an over-the-phone interview on Monday for a nursing assistant job at a hospital and I want to know what it is like before jumping into this. I've worked in nursing homes before but not in a hospital. By the way, I already know what nursing assistants do as a job (seeing how I work in a nursing home as a nursing assistant), I just want to know if anyone here is a nursing assistant at one and if so do you like it? Or even if you know someone who has that job at a hospital and if they like it that would be great.

I want to apply for the nursing program when I am done with my last prerequisite. (adn program) I was wondering if it would be a good idea to work as a nursing assistant while in the program (once I am accepted). Do I have to be certified first? Is it labor intensive? I know each state pays differently, but is the pay decent?

I've had a million jobs all these years and now I just turned 49 and I'm unemployed again. I'm thinking about taking the two week immersion course to prepare to be a certified nursing assistant. I used to work in medical office (I worked in a variety of medical offices for about five years)but I bounced around from office to office and then I left the field. I've been working in day care centers for the last five years and now I"m out of work again. Would night shift CNA work be a steady field where I can finally stay in one place for more than one or two years? Any advice from those of you in the nursing field? How do you get "experience" for this type of job? Does working in child care count at all? Perhaps being a hospice volunteer will help? If you have any ideas I do hope you will share. Thank you!

Will I be able to use my nursing assistant certification from California to get a job as a CNA in Oklahoma? If not, what will I have to do to get an Oklahoma certification? I won't have to take a CNA class all over again, right?
