I'd like to hear about the specific duties of occupational therapists, what the job market is really like, and if occupational therapists find the career rewarding. Also, what kind of traits make a person a good occupational therapist? (I am thinking of enrolling in an occupational therapy program after I graduate, and I would like to find out the information I can't obtain from the Occupational Outlook Handbook.) Thank you!

I am currently majoring in occupational therapist assistance. I was wondering if I would be able to work with kids or in public schools, or is that more of just an OT's job? In high school, I was in peer tutoring where we helped with the special needs kids, and I absolutely LOVED it! I enjoyed seeing their faces light up once they learned something new! Thanks. :)

If you want to be an occupational therapist in the future after grad school, what should you do to make high school count? (e.g.) do you have to excel in math and science (physics, chemistry, biology?) Is it ok if you're weak at math? Will 3 years of science hurt your chance at a Thereupedic Recreation major? Thank you all for your kind help!

My niece lives in Arkansas and is wanting to become an occupational therapist. She just started college in the fall and there are no occupational therapy programs anywhere close to where she lives. I know there are masters programs for it online, but what do you have to do before you do that? Do you have to have a bachelors in it before you can? I'm thinking about careers right now. I know I'd love to work with kids, mostly special education kids. Teaching excites me but I'm worried about finding a job and the pay. I know everything is not about money but I hear teacher don'it get paid well for what they do. Occupational therapist excites me too, working with kids with disabilities. Which career is better and has more room to advance and grow. Any advice would be greatful! Thanks for answers in advance!

According to this government site, it seems quite promising: http://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/occupational-therapists.htm Now, I am asking those of you who are actually in the field or close to it. Are the jobs plentiful? Hopefully, this is not a case of high pay, few job opportunities. Also, what about occupational therapy assistants? How does the job market look for them?
