What all does it take to become a Respiratory Therapist?

I am currently in college and having trouble figuring out a major. I know that i definitely want to do something involved with the medical field and I was interested in a Respiratory therapist. I was just wanting to know what steps do I have to do to become one, and how long does it take? I also would like to know the opinions of people who are Respiratory therapist, Do you like your job?
