There are like 80 social worker type job vacancies in the Exeter/Plymouth area that I've been looking up in online job searches. Why? During this credit crunch and all? Anyone have insider knowledge on this? Follow-up question, then: with the high turnaround, would employers be willing to hire people with interest and related education, but not an actual social work degree or diploma?

It should not be thought of as a cushty job. Don't you think it's time to shake them up a bit and scare the sh*t out of them? Make these losers do hard time for their sins of apathy, and send a clear message to all other 'social workers' - this job is not for wusses.

I am thinking of becoming a social worker but i'm unsure what job opportunities there will be once I finish the degree. Can anyone give me examples (as many as possible) where a social worker may work? Also do you have to specialise in one area? Are there similar jobs available where I would be helping people, but the degree isn't necessary?

I have a BS in psychology, have been working as a social worker. The new job I applied for wants a "licensed social worker". Am I still eligible even though I'm not licensed? The only thing that is prohibiting me is that I have a degree in psych and not social work. Monique, my state offers a "social work technician" license. I am qualified for that. Will that help me get jobs?

I have a BA in Spanish literature and now I am going to try and apply to get a Masters in Social Work. Any advice from actual social workers in this department? Are there many jobs available in that field? What can I do to make my graduate school application look better since I have absolutely no experience in social work?
