What am I doing wrong in the interview?

Okay, I've had two interviews for jobs but my interviews are not going so well. I have a hard time relating what I've done to the job applied. Also, I specifically tell them what I did. Am I giving them too much information? Like I'll tell the interviewer that I have become more interested in Accounting and I am continuing my education in that field. I have a degree in a different area and little work experience. Basically, the jobs I've applied to were ones that I would have to learn to do. I just had the temp agency call and whenever I am picky about a job they act funny. They just called me about a host/hostess job. When I acted interested, they made a comment how they will call me back if they find a 'GIG' for me. (I am so annoyed by her comment.) Do you think I am getting bad reference (I think my previous supervisor is saying something bad about me, because the people at the other temp agency I went to acted funny towards me.)? Am I doing something wrong? Sorry, this is a little jumbled. I was applying for accounting clerk positions. Those were the interviews that I told them I went to school for accounting. The temp agency does check references before they give you assignments.
