I'm a black female. I do not want to be a cashier because I'm not good with money and I do not want to work at a fast food place; like McDonald's or Wendy's. I filled out applications to be a host/hostess, server or receptionist/administrative assistant and my qualifications are not up to part. Is there any other jobs besides sales/retail?

They honestly don't do much for work, sit people and greet them. My bosses refuse to pay them minimum wage, since enough people before weren't in their eyes greeting guests, we lose 3?f food sales to Host/Hostess. Even if they only work 3 hours and I am there 9. I need opinions from servers/hosts which way should it be. So far every server/bartender thinks the idea is laughable. I personally can't stand the idea.

I work at a small diner in Oregon, i work at minimum wage which is $8.95 and trust me i'm not complaining but some fellow co-workers and I feel as if were are getting jipped some tips. We have a tip pool at our restaurant which we put all tips left on tables into a jar and our manager will empty it at the end of the lunch shift and at the end of the night and put all the tips into a small money purse which she will take home and she will evenly distribute among everyone so more than just hosts/hostesses she includes kitchen staff and herself in this category. I have researched that she is entitled to tips tho because she does pour an occasional beer every once in a while and works in the kitchen mostly I don't so much mind sharing my tips with the kitchen staff but I feel as if we are getting jipped by the manager and she isn't fairly distributing tips among workers. I have also read up on tip pools and I believe that they need to be completely voluntary for participation I'm not sure if that's true or not but some clarification would be nice. Is there a certain department I can call to ask some of my questions? I need this job and don't want to be fired I just want to be paid fairly. Also we are never aware of how much money is ever in our tip jar! She never tells us our total value for tips made in a single day leaving only for speculation.

Just got the position as a host at a restaurant, and the manager's job description scared the crap out of me. So... 1) Is being a host hard? Or, what is the hardest aspect about being a host? 2) What else do you have to do besides smile/greet people and seat them? 3) Why would the servers get mad at you? 4) What is your worst host/hostess experience?

Why have this kind of attitude towards someone with experience bar tending and as wait staff? Being a hostess is extremely mind numbing to some people and a complete waste of their skills which is extremely uncomfortable to some people. These are all places that do not normally have wait staff start as hostess. How can this stop in order to get the position(s) you apply for in the first place ? What might an applicant be doing wrong?

Hello, I am 16 years old and am looking forward to apply to Olive Garden as Hostess. I have two cousins (one host and one bus boy) along with a friend who work there. They informed me some hostess quit and have jobs available. I do not know what to include with my application or what to do to aid my application. Should I include a cover sheet or any other information? I am #1 in my class based on GPA and am in many school clubs like Key club, student council, etc. This is my first job and I would really like to be hired. Please, anyone with good tips for getting a hostess job at Olive Garden, all help is appreciated.

When I go out to eat and the hosts/hostesses and servers are really polite and warm it makes me wonder if they really are that way or if they're just acting extra nice for the job. Do you think they cuss and stuff in th kitchen and aren't as nice as they seem when they aren't around the customer?
