I need to know every detail. I just took a job with a company that does staffing for accounting. Allthough my background is in HR, my accounting knowledge is lacking. All the books I've read have just given me the basics. I need to know in detail what duties an payroll clerk will need to preform on a daily basis.

I work in a comissions only sales department. I worked for 12 years as a payroll clerk until I burned out & decided to move forward in my professional life. But my new boss use mean language and cursing in the meetings. I'd tried to look for another job w/o success. While I did good money in the past, the new quotas are averwhelming.

If the company has a vacation policy that the clerk knows to be illegal, is the clerk liable in any way. The clerk has told management about the illegal policy (a use-it-or-lose-it policy regarding vacation pay). The clerk processes payroll and calculates final pay. If there is liability, what can/should be done to protect against a lawsuit? If there isn't likely to be personal responsibility, can the person inform a former employee of their wages that were legally theirs? If they don't want to tell the employee but the employee asks them if it was legal, what can they say? Good to know there is no personal liability. I was afraid that final pay calculation would mean it was the person's decision not to pay out the time off and therefore their call. (the time off has been called 'floating holidays' but is taken at the employee's discretion and with no restrictions - the state doesn't care what its called, its earned wages if its treated the same as vacation... there currently is no written policy on this, the company just decided to offer it and told everyone they had to use it or lose it.) Going out of the way to inform an ex-employee would be a sticky situation and probably not worth the hassle. What if the employee asks about it? Does the clerk have to tell them?

I got a new job and have officially been there for 5 weeks now. My actual title is service coordinator/ billing and payroll clerk. So far, my new boss has only taught me how to open the mail, and post the bills into a file that I then email to her so that she can actually post them into Quicken. This process literally takes me maybe 10 minutes so the rest of the day (7 hours, 50 minutes) of my day is spent reading books. I am extremely bored but she is a control freak (she screams at her employees when they don't do EXACTLY as she wants), likes to change the rules to fit her mood of the day, and won't let me do anymore of the tasks. Do you think I should try to talk to her about this or should I look for a new job?

David Perez applied for a payroll clerk job with Search Services, a market research firm. To improve his chances in getting the job, he exaggerated his work experience on his résumé. Based on this résumé, David was hired. After one year, he received above-average ratings during his annual performance review. Shortly thereafter, his boss met David’s former supervisor and learned the truth. When David exaggerated his experience on his résumé, do you think he believed he would be caught? What effect did this belief have on his behavior?
