As consumers, we always look for the best value; this is what drives competition in the free market. But, there's no such thing as a free lunch; we enjoy the low prices that conglomerates like Walmart offer us today because someone is working for them without health insurance or other benefits, and because a small business down the street might have had to close because it couldn't compete with the mega corporation. Richard B. Reich, Secretary of Labor during the Clinton years, wrote an article about this, basically stating that if you want to know who's responsible for poor worker treatment, you need only look into a mirror. Another example is the fact that we enjoy low prices from foreign labor even though these are jobs that could have been given to people here. Anyway, back to the question, how do we strike a balance? Would you be willing to pay more so an employee could have health insurance? Actually, I brought him up because he was the Secretary of Labor; the fact that he is a socialist, or so you claim, is irrelevant. His article actually seemed pretty supportive of the free market; he stated that more regulations of where people are allowed to shop is just a "paternalistic tripe", you can't deny people the right to buy and sell what they want.

My husband found out today at a meeting that the Secretary of his job (he's a security guard) forged his signature on this health insurance document to decline health insurance. We also found out she did the same to another employee. Basically, what I'm asking is, What can be done? His boss & higher up assured him that something is going to be done about this, but we would like to know if he's got a personal case against her. Thank you

I am a Filipina that is willing to work in Australia, But, I cant afford to pay the price in working and going there. I am looking for a company or individuals that are willing to directly hire me. I'm a college graduate who had a vast experience working in Non-life Insurance Company for almost 12 years. I started as Legal Secretary, Executive Assistant in Legal Department, Agencies Department & Agencies Marketing Department. I was promoted in Agencies Marketing Department (AMD) as Supervisor and later became an Agencies Marketing Department Head (Manager). In year 2002 and 2007 I managed our family business (Bakeshop) and also became the in-house cake decorator of the store. If I have a choice I want to have a job in bakeshop related work. But I'm open to any job that I have expertise into and job that I could start in working and living in Australia. PLEASE HELP ME! Thank you very much and Godbless to all!

Before Obama came around, the things I worried most about in America were 1) people dying from lack of health insurance 2) torture of prisoners (Guantanamo) without oversight. Obama focused on those. He also required higher gas mileage for cars, support for unemployed through the stimulus bill -- which kept teachers on, extended unemployment benefits, etc. I am confused. Which of these do you not support? Which of these can be improved without government intervention?

I had a friend who had a room-mate who graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Arts and went absolutely nowhere in the job market. She eventually became a dog-walker in San Francisco. I have looked up the jobs that some of friends posted on Facebook and some of them to be quite frank are awful. People that studied subjects like Political Science from UC Merced never ended up working at DC as secretaries, speech writers, paid political managers or lobbyists. They went into hospitality /food industries, telemarketing, selling insurances and other jobs that do no require a bachelor's. I was considering a major in Political Science but after looking at the job prospects, I'm not too sure if that is what I want to learn for the next three years.
