Are there any people out there who have worked night shifts in fancy hotels or know people who have and know about how much they make an hour? I'm assuming they would make more than receptionists that work during the daytime...right? And also, is the job mostly just sitting around with rarely any phone calls / people coming in or is that just a myth?

I will be the only employee. I have heard that I must have insurance and this is based on my payroll. If I pay a sub-contractor for work performed does he become my employee and am I liable for his actions on the job site? What does general liability insurance cover? What is a insurance audit?

Being that insurance is an expensive start up cost, are there any way around this expense, either work that doesn't require insurance or payment plans, grants or very cheap bare minimum insurance (any internet sites that state what the cost of insurance for varying work/professions. Our agent put our commercial liability policy on an automatic withdrawal payment plan. The policy is supposed to cost 1200./year, but the amount of the withdrawals is going to add up to close to 1800/year. I asked him about it and he said he would try to clarify what was happening with the company. I'm feeling suspicious of him and I would like to know how HE gets paid. Also, we have had no claims -- ever. Is he ripping us off?

I currently work in Fund accounting at a relatively large corporation in the Los Angeles area and was recently offered a position as an Insurance Premium Auditor with a small firm. It's an independent contractor position that pays $35/hour starting but with no benefits or mileage reimbursement. I was hoping to get into Tax Auditing (IRS) or some sort of Auditing work down the road and was wondering if auditing jobs (Big 4, IRS, etc) would look highly at experience from Premium Auditing work with a small company? I plan to go back to school for a master's of taxation when I save enough money and ultimately get my CPA. Should I take this Insurance Premium Auditing job? Has anyone had experience with this type of work? Im currently 25. Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

I have been applied for premium auditing positions and most of the companies turned me down (as I don't even have 1 yr of experience). By any chance, do you guys know where / which job can eventually lead me to the field of premium auditing? or does it help if I try to get into position like worker's compensation positions first? However, to my knowledge, it is also not easy to enter workers' compensation field w/o working experience. Honestly, I am totally lost. I will appreciate if you guys can give me insight /your experience/ advice. THANKS! sure! You can apply with Travelers. It is one of the largest insurance group in USA. They are now hiring and you can searching for 'premium auditor' on monster.com. Get in there first and if possible hook me up and get me in !! lol jk
