I am thirteen years old and I know for sure I want to make computer programs and/or computer/laptops themselves, I also wouldn't mind a software job in the videogame industry. I have been searching careers for an 8th grade English project. I am very confused on what the difference between a Software Engineer and a Software Developer. Are they the same thing? I would like to know so I know what career I am looking for in the future. I am very skilled in computers and have already taken a high-school credit computer class (Computer Applications) and I am only in 8th Grade. (Also I would love it if one of these two careers involves making power points. I love powerpoints.)

I am a junior in high school and need to start looking at colleges. I would like to go into a career in software engineering and more specifically the development of software/applications, and I am a very talented programmer. I've been looking at many colleges, most only offer computer science and not software engineering. would I want to find schools with a specific degree in software engineering to help better my self, or for my interests is computer science the better option?

I was planning on going to UNH to double-major in computer-software engineering and business management. I was thinking of making money by getting into computer software engineering. Then, possibly opening up some sort of business. I was also considering doing a double-major because I figured that it would probably double my job opportunities. Is there any reason why this is a bad idea? What are some other good uses of having these two degrees?

I'd like to know the difference between a computer software engineer and a programmer. Also, which is a better career *in the field of software engineering* for businesses and companies - application software or systems software? If they are the same thing..should I pick software engineer? I'm doing my college application and I'm wondering which to choose. I want the career of whichever creates/programs . The way I see it, one programs apps and software, and the other just makes them better and whatnot.

I am wanting to develop a software engineering skill set, possibly to use in future work as a software engineer. I have some questions about getting into this field. 1.) Where would I go for mentoring in this field? Is there somewhere in the open source community that can let me acquire the experience I need to possibly get a job in software engineering in the future? 2.) Is a consulting career (doing this for clients for hire) viable in the future, once experience is gained? 3.) Since I come from an engineering (including electrical and computer) background, would embedded software engineering be a good fit for myself, or should I just stick to non-embedded programming? 4.) What languages would be a good fit for a.) embedded b.) application and c.) web? 5.) I've heard of a formal software development process/lifecycle? Is this what software engineering covers, and is there an Internet tutorial on this? 6.) Any other tips? Thanks!

Is software engineering a subset of computer engineering? I have also heard of other jobs like software architect, software developer, programmer, and computer scientist. What are those all about? Which one of these titles would video game developer fall under? I would want the ability to both design and create a concept, so which job would be best for me?

I'm currently considering a career change and I would like to work as a Software Engineer or Developer. I already know the basic programmings, such as HTML, Python, Javascript, C+. I'm planning to take MCSD: Web application certification exams. If I become certified as MCSD, would I be able to get a job in the IT field? I'm also thinking about going back to school to get a Masters in Computer Science, but I want to work before I make my decision. I will be grateful if someone could advise me what kind of certifications I should get to get hired by the potential employers (at least a part-time job).

After I graduate, I want to get a job designing and writing software, primarily software that users have direct interaction with. For example, touch screen ATMs, or professional smartphone applications. I do not want a job that involves setting up computer networks, or anything like that. Software engineering seems promising, but the descriptions of it on college websites are not so clear.
