Hi, I am planning to start searching for my next job but I have still got few months. I am not sure if there will be many jobs (ASP.NET C# developer) in July. I am thinking that new financial year starts in April, so there will be more jobs available in April, May but I am not sure?

I know HTML, CSS, dreamweaver & html-ing a photoshop composition. I know there's probably a lot more to learn to be considered for a web developer position. So my question is, what are the skills to learn which more or less guarantee you strong consideration in at least an entry level job in the web developing industry? Or is this something that's always changing or something more dependent on your portfolio? Thanks!

I'm 1+ year experienced web developer, eu citizen. One week ago I decided to create my portfolio, which will contain projects, that will be made by me and I'll participate in. Moreover, I'm going to write tutorials and tricks on web development here. In the near future I would like to find a web dveloper job in UK. So, if there are some developers, who can tell me what really do I need (what kind of requirements, experience) to get a job here?! Thank you in advance.

I'm just getting started in web design, but I'm much more interested in more in-depth web programming than just HTML and CSS. I'm pretty well versed in Javascript and Ajax, and I'm working on my SQL and PHP, but I'm also curious about Coldfusion, ASP, etc. What are some good technologies I should start working on to help my career?

I am currently a pretty solid front end website developer. I am strong in CSS, XHTML, and using Javascript and have written some small scripts of my own. I understand programming and have played with both PHP and ASP.NET 2.0. I understand most of the fundamentals of programming... control structures, OOP (Classes, Objects are an instance of a Class). I have understand relational databases and how they function including how multi dimension databases work. I can go into most code and tweak it to change basic pieces of it. What I don't have is specific web application experience. I want to take the ASP.NET application route instead of alternative technologies like PHP. What do you recommend I add to my skill set so that I can successfully enter this field in a corporate position. Should I develop 1-3 websites using the technology? Should I go get a second bachelors degree in computer science? I am looking for the quickest way to get in the door. Thanks!

We three friends started a small firm for web-development three weeks ago. We build our own website, distributed flyers locally and do telemarketing everyday. We are trying to target small businesses, but we have got no luck yet, we were expecting at least one project in the first month, but no luck. We believe we are a good team, one guy is a graphics designer, I am ASP developer and another guy is database specialist. We have reasonable experience in development, but not much in marketing. Any suggestions what we are doing wrong, how can we improve?

I did a graphic design degree but my web knowledge is zero but would love to learn so that one day i can class myself as design and web designer/developer. This would give me more job opportunities too (I'd hope). Is it realistic to teach yourself? Or do you think that doing a degree is the only realistic way?

I love PHP and I love programming, but I've come to the point that it has to be a job. I've searched for PHP programmer offers in my country, but they are close to none, everybody wants an ASP.NET expert. And they all want an 'expert' like it's so possible for everyone to be just perfect. Is ASP.NET hard opposed to PHP OOP and procedural?

I ask this because i thought there was but people seem to use the words interchangeably even on job adverts. I thought a designer dealt with the coding of web pages and the layout and that a developer did stuff like dynamic and database. Actually i just read in a book that these 2 roles are becoming increasingly combined maybe that's why i was confused.

DO NOT tell me to go to college. I want to teach myself. Please tell me exactly what books I should read word for word, one page at a time. I'm willing to work for free to gain experience/good references, but I want to be employable as soon as possible. Probably for jobs on craigslist. I live in NYC.
