 | But a computer scientist cannot get the same jobs as a ee?
My dad thinks computer science is stupid and says its based on electrical engineering so why not get that degree?

 | Computer science designates the scientific and mathematical approach in information technology and its applications, notably computer software. A computer scientist is a scientist who specialises in the theory of computation. So, is a computer scientist knowledgeable about computer hardware? Does he know how hardware works? Can he make his own computer?

 | I've got about half a year until I need to start making decisions about what course I would like to make, but it's been almost a year and a half pondering about what career I would like in the first place!
So basically, I would like a job where I can do the coding and create programs for the like of google or microsoft, well that's the dream anyway. I've been reading up A LOT on what the difference is between them and I think I have it down, but all it's done is made me more confused as to what to choose. I know that computer scientists tend to move into software engineering and that it tends not to go the other way, so im thinking of following that route and taking computer science. However, wouldn't it just be better to take software engineering (as I hate maths and I know that computer science deals with a lot of it) and move straight into programming. But again, I contradict myself and just think to endure the mathematical side of computer science and then move into software engineering when I go to find a career, as this would prepare me better all round and let me move into other computer related careers to get some experience and even just learn a bit more around the subject. And then again, I'm back to the start and start thinking that computer science could just be a waste of time dealing with all the maths and that I could just end up working with a development team and not need to do anything apart from code.
So basically, what would be better for me? Are these even the courses I should be considering? And if it's not too much to ask, what would be the best university for these courses? However taking into consideration that although a university may have a great IT department, employers tend to look for graduates from top universities (I've looked at many graduate jobs that have the same old "looking for a candidate that has graduated from a top university"), they tend not to care about the department but rather the name of the university and its reputation.
FYI, I am in college at the moment and although I'm still in my first year (studying IT), I've got distinctions across the board, 100?n all my work, so I'm well on the way to getting a great end result and top universities are a consideration.

 | Is software engineering a subset of computer engineering? I have also heard of other jobs like software architect, software developer, programmer, and computer scientist. What are those all about? Which one of these titles would video game developer fall under? I would want the ability to both design and create a concept, so which job would be best for me?

Thank you

 | I graduated with a BS in computer science two years ago, worked for a year, hated cubicles, returned for a degree in geology, and I graduate soon. I am doing some research doing computer modeling with a professor and really enjoying it, but when I surf around monster for job postings I really don't see much for someone with my dual degrees. I can see a need in geology for computer scientists to construct computer models and software tools, but I don't know where to send my resume. Any ideas?
