 | I am currently majoring in Information Systems with a track of database management. I plan to become a database administrator or database analyst when I graduate. I know the job prospects are great now but I just want to make sure when I'm 50, this will still be something that companies CANNOT do without.

 | Okay I have been with a company for 3 years and it's getting to the point I can't take things anymore. I'm basically a database administrator, secretary, filing clerk, systems analyst, purchasing agent, and bookkeeper for AR and AP. I asked for a raise and actually got told I couldn't get one then the people whose job I was doing extra work for got raises and bonuses. Christmas recently came and went with nothing, no bonus, no congrats and I haven't had a raise now in over a year.
So I was curious if other people were in similar situations and how they got a better job and left their current one easily. I'm going back to school to get certs for computers in addition to my working knowledge (A+, MCSA, MCSE) but I'm near my breaking point. Any ideas on how to keep my cool or a way to find another job quicker? I'm 29, so being young and doing real office work sucks in my area I get judged on my age more than my ability a lot.
I saw that someone mentioned making a list. Unfortunately I have done that already and my boss just seems to believe what she wants to believe not what is actually going on. There is a lot of politics since I work for a smaller company as well.

 | I am planning to be a database administrator and I'm thinking to get a certificate for that. I already know the classes that I need to take but I'm not sure if the "oracle, linux, unix" are programming classes... I'm really really bad at math, and I always hear that a person has to be good in math to be a programmer ( or at least to make programs ). Can somebody tell me the if these (oracle, linux, unix) classes are gonna be programming??? Thanks.

 | I go to community college and I decided to become a business major and went to my counselor to know what classes to take. After that, I was taking my classes and after some research I decided to become a database administrator. I'm majoring in Information System and transferring to San Diego State University in the fall 2013.
What I'm asking from the yahoo community is tips and advice on how to get a successful career in this job. Some examples include: am I taking the right major to become a database administrator? What classes do you recommend that I should take that can help me become a database administrator? What are some things that I should to increase my chances of getting an intership then a job? And many more things. Feel free to write your opinion about this, either you agree your disagree with career. I want to know as much as possible to help me get ready for the workforce.
I know using acronym are easier and more efficient but can you not use them here. I don't know what some of them are. Or if you use them can you write it out first then in parenthesis can you put the abbreviations.
For example I don't know what SQL means.

 | I have always admired Switzerland and am considering living there after I graduate from university.
Unfortunately, I have zero knowledge of German. I speak some French and Italian, and my fiancé is fluent in French. We both work in the computer field - he is a web developer and I am studying to be a database administrator.
My question is, how likely is it that we would be able to live and find jobs in Switzerland? What sort of availability is there for computer related jobs there? And how difficult would it be to acquire jobs as foreigners?
Thanks for any insight.

 | Hi, I am a recent graduate with a BA in Computer Information Systems and am looking to become a database administrator but have not find a job yet. Would obtaining a certification be a smart idea and would that increase my chances of getting a job? I have been looking into the MCDBA certification or the Microsoft SQL Certification. I am just looking for some guidance into entering this field and how to go about it.

 | I have been trying to find a general breakdown of the entire industry of computers and information technology, hoping there was a chart or directory that kind of broke it all down into major sections (like programmers, database administrators, systems designers, information managers, etc.) But so far I can't find such a chart that would help me pick a career. Does anyone know where I can go to kind of get the big picture?
