By the summer of 2014, I will be 3/4 of they way done completing my B.S. in Computer Science. I plan on applying to various companies for internships. I really need to get my foot in the door. I noticed some of the requirements go beyond the scope of what I've been taught. For instance they may want you to know .NET, J2EE, C#, ActiveX, SQL, Linux, and various IDEs I've never heard of. My university only focuses on Java and the only IDE I've learned there is JGrasp. Are prospective employers rigid on these requirements or will they teach you on the job? Also, does anyone have any suggestions to leverage myself a job/internship in the near future? Such as building a portfolio and creating my own website. Sorry this was such a novel to read. Your advice is tremendously appreciated. : )
