Currently have an associates' degree in IT. Interested in learning programming(like making apps, programs and stuff) I've done a bit of research and have only found two points of view, some people say it's a good career choice because there is good money. On the other side they say it's a bad, dead-end career with no opportunities.... What makes a good programmer? Like what are some of the requirements? I think it's interesting but is it a different world once you learn it? Is it really that hard? Other question; like what companies would hire a programmer? Does the work vary for each company or is there like an orientation website for people interested in programming? (PS: other career suggestions in IT are welcome)

I have never really looked into computer science as something I would ever pursue, but I've come to slowly realize that I like math and I'm good at it. I also like to solve problems and work with computers. I am only on my first course at the university, and I am starting to realize that it's much more difficult that I thought, yet other people breathe in this information. I would like to become good too, and if not the best, I'd just like to be able to have a handle on how to navigate myself through such courses. Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions on how to make me a better Computer Science student and what kind of tricks can I teach myself to be able to understand any programming language. What are some of the basics I may not know about but that may come in handy in the future. I am a driven and dedicated worker, but I get discouraged when we're given a piece of code to write and I don't even know where to start, even though I know that it's not that difficult. And maybe even some pointers for when things do get really difficult. Also, I took an internship where I had to perform testing on software, and I really enjoyed that. Some parts were complex, but overall it wasn't that hard for me, so I know I can do this, but I'd just like to know some tips and tricks on how to make the complex things seem a little less complex. Any suggestions? If anyone can share advice, that would be fantastic and greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)
