I've been applying for Java Developer jobs but haven't been getting the response I was hoping for. Most recently I didn't even get offered an interview for a position I was well suited for. My skills and experience fit in very well for the position and organization. I submitted a resume and cover letter and didn't get offered an interview. I guess what I want to know is, is it okay to reply to the e-mail I got from their hiring manager and ask why they passed on me?

Preferably I'd get the BS but the school thats affordable to me only has a BA option. I compared both BS/BA and there isn't much difference except for option to get more electives in the BA option. The BA has calc 1 & 2, discrete math, and data structure. I won't be short on math and I plan on taking physic 1 & 2. I wont be taking any art classes or learning another language i'll use the free electives to take more computer science and math classes. Will it really be a big deal looking for a entry java developer job with a BA in computer science compared to looking for one with a BS. The school is Thomas edison state college.

Say, you start your small business & now your business is stable & you want to hire a very experienced (10 years) Java Developer who also very good at Database. Let say, that person should have the same level of a Java project manager who work for big companies such as Google, Yahoo... How much does it cost to hire 1 person like that? 100K /year for fulltime? If we want to hire them to do parttime job, will they willing to do? Also, very important, is it easy to find that kind of expert in Silicon valley?

I just wanted to roughly know how much other people spend their time programming at work if you are a developer. I am a Java developer and I spend about 98?f the time coding. I was just wondering because a professor I had in college said that developers only spend about 25?f their time actually coding. One reason I may spend a lot of time coding is that the work is usually assigned to individuals rather than teams. Here are some questions to get a feel of how other companies work: How much time do you spend coding? What are other activities that take a large percentage of your time? What is the size of the company you work for? Do you feel like you work on projects as a team or individually? Feel free to leave any other comments that pertain from your experience.
